I woke up at night. Night! This was getting ridiculous. I got up and went to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and there was something different about me. I wasn’t gray anymore. Not a definite decaying sickly gray anyway. I was almost pale white. I looked awful, but better. Was it because I was living vampire hours? If that’s the case, that’s as vampire as I’ll go. Anything is better than being gray. I went back to my bed and covered up again. I slid off my long dress and lay in a black bra and black shorts. I found the shorts in my closet and thought I’d better use them in case my skirt flew up or something.

I started to fall asleep again, with only my head sticking showing, when the door opened a bit. A profile peeked through. I wasn’t paying attention to who it was, but soon, a figure was standing next to me. I looked up and saw Michael staring down at me. His eyes were kind and seemed to be enchanted. I was fully awake now.

                “Michael?”

He looked at me then seemed to snap out of his daze. He started to blush a bit. His long lashes fluttered and put his hands in his pocket. “Come on. There’s a meeting and you’re involved.”

A meeting? I didn’t want to go. I just started to enjoy this bed again. “Mike, I don’t want to go.”

Michael’s eyes widened and he looked at me like I’d lost my mind, again. He struggled for words at first. I only called him Mike to annoy him. It was working great. “Don’t call me Mike! It’s horrendous and disrespectful!”

I let out a sigh. I was only trying to tease him. “Fine, I’ll be there soon.”

Michael’s face was red now. “Just meet us in the council room in 5 minutes. And don’t be late!” As he was walking out I heard him mutter something about stupid humans. I went to my closet and found a loose black silk tank top. I went out the door and then into the council room. There were a few empty seats. I saw Michael sitting where he usually did. Dermot was next to him but Maria and Ross seemed to be absent. I saw Edwin chatting with some others around the blood stand.

“Sydia. Come sit here.” Dermot smiled to me.

I smiled back and walked toward the table. There was a chair empty on both sides of Dermot. Michael looked at me and saw that I was choosing. I saw him swallow and let his purple eyes stare at me. It’s like he was waiting to see if I’d choose the correct chair or something.

“Sydia.” Michael said calmly. I don’t know if he meant to, but his voice sounded smooth like silk and attractive. It gave me a jump and caught my attention.

“Sit here.” He sighed afterwards. He pointed to a chair next to him and to Dermot. He didn’t look at me after he told me where to sit. I sat and waited for everything to come to order. Dermot leaned to me.

“So, how have you been finding the place? I didn’t get a chance to ask you.”

I didn’t say anything for a few minutes. When I started to say it stunk, I heard Michael let out a long and heavy sigh. Both Dermot and I looked at him. He caught us staring.

“Can’t you two be quiet until it’s time to start?”

“Ugh, grow up Michael.” I spat at him. Something about him was annoying me. He looked to me with an intimidating stare. There seemed to be such emotion in his eyes. I couldn’t look at him anymore. I looked back to Dermot.
