Ding. Ding. Ding.

The  grandfather clock on the wall strikes eight at night, and I'm planted on the expensive cream colored sofa located in the sitting room of my families mansion. I smoothed out the skirt of my  blue sundress once again, while waiting for our guests for dinner to arrive.

After the escapade with Abbi in bathroom of the country club, my nerves were shot. The thought of trying to sneak out had me racking my brain with ideas on how to do it. I have no doubt in my my mind that I could manage it, but the sheer thought of being caught had my heart attempting to beat out of my chest.

When the brunch had finally ended earlier, after an excrutiating three hours of pleasentries with cronies, my mother insisted that we invite the Monty's over for dinner. A family just as high up in the community as ours, if not more. We have know the Monty's for quite some time and the last time they came over for a nice dinner, they insisted that their son and I start a relationship.

I tried to convince my mom that I didn't want any part of that relationship, but she wouldn't listen. I'm convinced the only thing she heard coming out of my mouth was how handsome he was.

Since then we go out on a regular basis every friday, where he usually drops me at the movies or at a restaurant while he goes to do god knows what.

When the whole thing is over he usually picks me up and takes me home, where we'll happily give all the details about how great the movie was, or how romantic the dinner was.

I'll admit that Nathan Monty was nowhere near an eyesore, but he carried himself like you should bow in his presence. Like you were blessed to be in the same vicinity as him, and if anything is unattractive to me, it's that.

It doesn't help either, that even though we are not actually in a relationship, he seems to have some sort of ridiculous claim over me.

As if honey.

And my mother is out here already planning the wedding. I didn't have the guts to tell her that if she liked him so much and thought he was husband material, that she should divorce my father and marry him herself.

I'm sure that if given the chance she probably would.

Stupid Susan, always putting me in uncomfortable situations.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by my father, who walked swiftly into the room. I didn't have to look to see that he was heading immediately to the silver shelf in the corner  that held his favorite top shelf brandy in a beautiful crystal decanter.

As much as we put on a fake front for the company, neither one of my parents can get through the night with one another without the help of that toxic drink.

I cleared my throat to make myself known in the room after my father had already downed one whole glass of the brandy.

"Willoh? When did you get here?" He said, a shameful look in his eyes.

"I've been here dad, sorry for intruding though.." I scratched the back of my head, not really knowing what to do.

"Well you should go find your mother before she loses it, it seems somethings gone wrong with the main course in the kitchen." He exclaimed in a serious tone, trying to change the subject off of his heavy drinking.
