Outsider POV
Mrs. Vey was the first on the scene. Her face softened in deep sadness.
Another loved one gone.
A single tear rolled down her cheek, and she choked back her shaking breaths. She was broken. Realization brought her back, and she reached to touch Michael, comfort him. Something felt off, like the energy was being drained from the room. She touched his shoulder, the only part of him that seemed to be unbandaged. She could feel his Lichtenberg scars, arching across his body. Is this how Tanner felt? People he loved, dead, because of what he did.
Gustavo came running, blood draining from his face.
Another soldier gone. Another cause lost.
He paused as he felt the heavy atmosphere the room presented. He went to the bed and solemnly took off his Distinguished Service Cross from around his neck and shakily set it in her upturned palm.
He turned as he heard desperate footfalls down the hall. As he turned to go inform the other members, Ostin shoved open the door, face paled and tears running down his face. Before he could say anything to Michael, Mrs. Vey took his arm and lead him out of the room.
Outside the ward, the Electroclan gathered together in an anxious huddle. Ostin and McKenna held each other and sobbed. Nichelle's face softened, and her guarded eyes held back tears. Taylor had always respected her, even when she hadn't deserved any form of it. Jack felt the pain of Wade's loss and Taylor's bearing on his mind. He stood there, speechless. If he dare spoke, he would feel the finality of the disaster crash down on him. He held Abigail's hand, but no source of consolation could be felt. She had also been saved by Taylor, and felt appreciated and acknowledged by her kind behavior. Cassie wept, knowing fully well the affect that this would have on the Electroclan, if it even survived this devastating loss.
Mrs. Vey walked off, trying to hold herself together enough to console Mrs. Ridley, who to nobody's surprise, could be heard sprinting down the hall.
Gustavo was able to intercept Mrs. Ridley, asking her to follow Sharon into the infirmary. She was inconsolable. Tears streamed down her face as she walked, defeatedly, towards the room.
She saw Michael, tears streaming down his face, muttering, "It should've been me. W-w-why did I drag her into this."
He saw her walk into the room, her face was streamed with tears. His eyes welled up, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry... your daughter... I should have..."
She stopped him, voice cracking, "They told me what happened, I wasn't aware that she... she was so brave. I..." She paused, "I was angry with you... when she was kidnapped. I thought you had been a bad influence. If only I had known, that she was truly making a difference..."
Michael shakily got up, groaning through the physical and emotional pain he was experiencing. Sharon came in and solemnly said, "Michael, let's leave them some time." She brought in a wheelchair and helped him into it. He didn't want to leave. He had taken for granted all of the time they had spent together, and now she was gone. He realized that he was bleeding through his bandages and the numbness of the situation started to cease. He was wheeled slowly to the hall, where the Electroclan stood. Everyone teared up when they saw Michael's current state.
Ostin spoke, "Are you... is she..?" His eyes widened. Gustavo walked in, announcing a debriefing for the other Electroclan members in the conference hall, immediately. Michael was wheeled back to his room, where doctors were shocked at his current condition.
They couldn't pick up an electrical signature from Michael.
Lights started blinking and the operating machines squealed and ceased.
Everything was dark, and the silence deafened the occupants of the base.
