"Mom-"

"Shh, it looks like we have a bit more to go"

"You just said we were here though... how much further do we have to go now?"

"We have to cross the river up ahead and then we'll be safe..." My mother said as her words lingered in the air.

"Safe"

Is there really even anywhere that's safe in a haunted forest where people kill themselves?

"Come on sweetie, we have to go now," My mother said after walking a few steps and realized that I wasn't following.

"Okay..." I mumbled, deciding to give in and follow her in the direction towards the river.

I wasn't sure if this was the smart thing to do but the majority of my instincts were corrupted by thirst.

I wanted- no needed water and the river was the perfect thing to get that.

Walking down the rocky hill was not easy and I feared that I would make one wrong step and fall tumbling down.

My mother walked as if she had no fear of falling or really any fears at all.

I knew this all too well. Adam carried himself in this manner too and ended up being bad.

Despite the warning picking at my thoughts, there was some sort of hope blooming inside of me, daring to attack any doubts.

This was and still is my mother after all. Thinking that she didn't love me for so many years was hard enough, but wondering why she didn't love me was even harder.

Now that she was here and seemed to express that love that I was lacking for so long, I could not risk losing it.

I could not risk hanging on to the thin thread that still connected me to her. I could not ignore the blood coursing through my body that was shared with her. She was my mother and that was that.

After finally arriving to the periphery of the river, I looked down at the water that tempted me to completely devour every aspect of it.

I couldn't remember the last time that I drank water which only made me want to attack it like a tiger finding food during a long winter.

Just drink it... you know you want to.

But what if there's dead bodi-

No! Just give in to your thirst and drink!

Not wasting a moment longer, I squatted down in front of the river and placed my hands into it. The water felt extremely cold and in that moment, I couldn't resist any longer.

Holding my hands together in a bowl like form, I slowly brought water that resided in my hands to my trembling lips.

This moment was precious to me and I ultimately did not want to let it slip. I did not want to let my chance of survival slip.

Tilting my head downwards, I closed my eyes and took one lick of the water. The taste of the water was truly marvelous and it restored not only my aching thirst, but also my soul in an odd but satisfying way.

It was strange that such a small amount of water could make me feel this way and within seconds, I was on the ground and half of my face was raveling in the water.

I made sure to keep my nose above the water as I gulped down the water. It was like my mouth now had a mind of its own and I was addicted to the taste.

"That's enough Anna," a voice that sounded so far away spoke.

Ignoring that voice, I continued to devour the delicious water.

"I said that's enough!" The voice shouted, snapping me out of the trance and causing me to quickly stand up.

Mom?

"We have to go, now," My mother stated with desperation clear in her voice.

She started walking into the river and didn't even bother to see if I was following. I contemplated taking off my shoes but decided against it since I did not know what was at the button of the river.

After taking a few steps into the shallow river, I already knew that something was off. Just moving through the water felt weird.

It felt a bit too thick if that made any sense at all but then again, isn't that how it feels walking in water?

Moving my legs as fast as I could, I nearly caught up with my mother who seemed to be moving through the water without any problems.

The river got deeper and deeper as my gut feeling suddenly turned into realization: she was leading me to my death.

As soon as I blinked my surroundings no longer looked familiar and I froze once I realized that the river was made up of blood instead of water.

What the f*ck?

I was scared and frozen in place until I saw the thousands of disoriented dead bodies floating around me. A scream erupted from deep within me as my mother stopped walking and turned around to scold me.

Only it wasn't my mother who turned around.

There was a demonic being in her place as it glared at me through its red slits.

"You're not my moth-"

"Shut your mouth!" The demon growled and grabbed my hand as it dived in the blood filled river.

I'm instantly pulled down with her or rather it as I closed my eyes and tried my best to resurface.

It's claws were digging into my skin and the thought of my blood mixing with the potential thousands of victims' blood made me even more desperate to escape.

The force tugging me down was quite strong as I tried shaking it off of me but the thickness of the blood around us made it hard to move.

I was getting tired of fighting this thing and it's bad enough that my energy was already low from not eating in days.

I have been holding my breathe for a while now but did not know how much longer I could keep this up.

The demon only pulled me deeper into the blood infested river and instinctively I opened my mouth to shout for help but no sound came out.

Pushing myself up one more time, I had already made up my mind that if I didn't resurface after that, I would just give up.

The demon's grip on me only tightened as pain radiated throughout my body and that was it for me. I was done trying to fight it and knew that death would follow in a matter of seconds.

Goodbye.
