As the darkness unfold, Wheatley alongside with another intelligence dampening sphere was orbiting the moon; suddenly, they saw astronauts on a space shuttle deploying an orbital canon and was excited.
Wheatley activated his telecommunicator to speak with an astronaut. The astronaut was confused whether they were satellites or a combine origin.
As the astronauts retrieve Wheatley and his companion, Wheatley saw a meteorite heading for the astronaut and out of panic, he used something that made them thrust to the shuttle. It was one of his 'tools' that no one said to him.
When they landed, something picked them up without anything touching them. It was a gravity gun that picked them both up. Wheatley said that he was from Aperture Laboratories but someone told him that Aperture was struck by an Asteroid but Wheatley completely disagreed that Aperture was struck by an asteroid.
As they get into the facility, Wheatley saw a big sign that says Black Mesa. He just ignored the sign and agreed to what the carrier told him to. After 1 month, the combine remnants was killed and Wheatley was freed except his companion. Wheatley was given a Zen Crystal core and solar panels by his shell to recharge and make him float.
He activated his map module also given by his Carrier and found Aperture Laboratories.
