(Aris' POV)
I'm nearing the end of my rotation at Northwestern after being here for almost 72 hours. I'm restless and wanting to get out of this place that my misanthropic self has an intense love/hate relationship with.
It's been a very busy day. I need a moment to myself, and had just left the on-call room. Being around people and their germs and uncleanliness is stifling.
As I'm heading to finish up the rest of my various tasks such as charting, dictations, and discharges, I hear a sound of annoyance calling me.
"Dr. Sinclair," her voice rings out like nails slowly scraping down a chalkboard.
I speed up as if I hadn't heard her, although I'm sure I would hear it even if I were deaf.
"Dr. Sinclair! Wait!" she screeches again.
I sigh, knowing that she will just continue to pester me, if I don't acknowledge her.
I stop and slowly turn toward her. My body is completely still now with my face set in its usual stony mask. Her smile fades as soon as she sees it.
"Yes?" I ask in a clipped, impatient tone.
She looks taken aback like she always does. I am always this way towards her, so I don't know why she continues with her futile pursuance of me.
She stands there staring at me with her mouth slightly open like she was trying to formulate what to say in her miniscule brain.
To think that most of the men around here find her very attractive...
They don't understand why I don't take her up on her offers, but to me, she looks like an insect; a blonde, brown eyed, annoying insect.
My hands ball into fists tightly at my side, clenching like they would, if they were wrapped around her scrawny neck.
"Well, speak," I order, disgusted not only with her, but her ineptitude.
"Sorry, sorry!" she giggles once she snaps out of her daze, waving her hands apologetically. "It's just that...I know that you'll be leaving soon, and my shift is over in less than an hour, so I was wondering...well, you know, if you'd like to grab a bite to eat later, or maybe go for a drink?" she asks with a hopeful look on her face.
