LUNA IS CAPTURED THREE DAYS before Christmas.
It is clear why - the Quibbler has been posting articles that supports Harry Potter, and it is a cowardly move on the part of the death eaters in order to suppress their enemies further. They are getting desperate every passing day.
When Christmas rolls by, the atmosphere of the Hogwarts castle remains the same - dark, gloomy and menacing. The new rules imposed upon the students that forbids them from doing things they had taken for granted - talking too loudly, for instance - are turning their school into a living hell. Seamus has initially been confused at the strangely cruel rules - but he realises later on that though they have nothing to do with the ideologies of You-Know-Who, they are a way to ensure that the students would be pressurised enough to make their hopes slip slowly out of their bodies.
Seamus hates to admit it, but he thinks it is working.
He would have remained in bed all day had it not been made compulsory for all to attend each and every class they have. Disobeying the Carrows or the Headmaster in any way results in detentions so horrifying that they even brought tears upon McGonagall's eyes when she saw a terrified second year limping across the corridor, cradling a broken arm and sporting several bruises. There is nothing that Seamus wouldn't give in order to leave the castle and run away - somewhere that no one would be able to find him. But even the walls of the castle had become a prison, and with the dementors floating around over the grounds, he cannot find any difference between them and the prisoners locked up in Azkaban.
There is no hope - he can see it clearly. He can see all hopes being sucked away by the dementors that lurk menacingly in the air, the certainty for a future being crumbled to a tiny million pieces by the overwhelming torture that are placed upon their fragile shoulders, the lights in their eyes being blinded and killed by the numerous curses being shot at them mercilessly.
Seamus feels himself breaking down day by day, and he wasn't sure if he would ever fix.
