Tony couldn't sleep. He had tried for the last two hours. It was tree in the morning by now, might as well stay up he tought, leaving his bedroom. Instead of going in his lab as usual, he decided to take a spin in the training room. He wanted to up his condition to be able to keep up with the rest of the team even without his armour.
There had been several occasions where Tonay was forced to ditch the Iron Man suit during a fight. The feeling of uselessness had not sit well with him and drove to the gym more frequently.
The billionaire stopped dead in his tracks when he heard muffled sounds coming through the closed door of the barely lit training room. He couldn't think of any of his teammates saying that they planned on training that night.
Carefully, he peeked through the door, conceiling himself behind the non-see-through part of the large double door. The sight he was confronted with made him furrow his brows. The other Avengers had moved in the tower only 2 months ago but Tony was still sure that he roughly knew the shedules of every one. Including Barton, who was currently working on a puching bag he hadn't seen before.
The Archer had his back turned to the entrance and wore expensive looking on ear bluetooth headphones. He wore nothing but black athletic shorts and had his hands and feet wrapped like a boxer. Even from the distance Tony could see the sweat on his skin but otherwise, the Assasin seemed in top condition.
Quietly, to not give himself away, he asked his wristcomputer "Jarvis? how long has Agent Barton been down here?" The AI immediately answered through his one sided headset "Two hours Mister Stark. Agent Barton always disables my security feed in the training room but he arrived at one and hasn't left yet."
Tony was stunned. Considering they had general training time together every day, he didn't think anyone would train that long on their own. "What do you mean by 'always'?" he asked, remembering what exactly the computer had said. "Agent Barton usually comes to the range or training room at night. sometimes he is accompanied by Agent Romanoff. Sometimes she comes alome. It seems to me that they enjoy their own training routine."
How the hell? He thought. How could they have sneaked down here without him noticing? It was his Tower after all. Then, he remembered the grumpy mood Barton and Romanoff usually had in the morning. Neither of them was very talkative at all but the mornings were worse. Tony had always thought they had something together but didn't expect this 'something' to include nightly training sessions.
After realising that he could either, leave and pretend nothing had ever happened or enter the room to do his own training, he quickly decided for the latter. His couriosity finally winning.
Once through the door, Barton turned immediately, hands up in defense. The younger blonde dropped his fists the instant he realised it was Stark, turning back to his puncing bag. The punches and kicks he threw were nearly at an inhuman speed. He could almost rival cap at this point.
Tony walked over to one of the punching bags that he did know, and pulled his gloves on before throwing a few punches himself. It took barton less than three minutes to come over and eyed him sceptically. "What?" Stark snapped, still unsettled by his sudden company.
The Archer turned his headphones off and placed them around his neck "You're doing it wrong." a simple statement, no judgement or disdaim in his voice. "Here let me show you." he offered standing next to Stark.
Up close, Tony could see how trained the Agent really was. It seemed like every single muscle in his body moved when he punched the bag in front of him, laying his whole weight into it. The bag swung back and was steadied by the blonde's hand before he gestured for the taller man to reproduce the move he just showed him. After a few rehearsals Barton seemed contend with Tonys improvements and showed him how to kick instead. They trained like that for half an hour, neither talking more than neccessary before the blonde announced it was time for a sparring match to put the newly learned things into use.
