Atlanta Gone Wild

Becca's POV

It's been a few weeks since we moved into the campsite, a few weeks since we left King County.

Shane was pretty much the 'leader' of our group. Will and Shane were always butting heads on decisions like when to go on runs and whatnot.

Glenn was our go to runner. Whenever we needed more supplies, Glenn would go to Atlanta. The only person he would let go with him was Tommy, because he was the only one with a quiet step, unlike Shane or T-Dog.

My limp had gotten better, but it was still there. I only used my crutches on bad days.

I nodded a thanks to Carol as she gave me a plate of food. She gave me a warm smile in return.

I put a scoop of dog food into Oly's bowl before sitting on a lawn chair surrounding the fire pit, next to Lori and Carl.

"Hey Kade, how'd you sleep?"

"Good, thanks. You?" I smiled at her while picking at my bits of canned fruits.

"Good."

I sat silently after that, listening as Carol, Lori and Jaqui exchanged words in a conversation I didn't care enough to remember.

Glenn was set to go on a run today, and he wanted to bring Tommy. He asked me if he could go, and I told him yes, but I was regretting it now. I didn't want Tommy to go out to the city. I hated when he went. It terrified me, I couldn't imagine what the city looked like now.

"Kade." I looked up from my breakfast, raising an eyebrow at Shane. "Were you even listening to me?" I shook my head at him, a smirk growing on my face.

"I would've liked to insult you right now, but the sad truth is, you wouldn't understand me."

Shane rolled his eyes as Lori chuckled from beside me.

"Kade, c'mere."

I stood up and followed Shane as we walked to a more private area.

Shane turned to look at me and the look on his face made my stomach clench. This was a look I hated getting from him, pity.

"Tommy got sick." Were his first words.

My thoughts raced a hundred miles a minute. Sick? How?

"How do you know? Where is he?" I found myself taking a step closer to Shane, as if doing so, I'd be able to get more information out of him.

"He's lying in his tent right now. He wasn't looking too good this morning." My lips pressed together in a thin line as I nodded my head.

"Do we have any medicine?" Tylenol. Advil. Something. Anything.

"Not what he needs." I facepalmed myself, a groan escaping my lips. "Then someone needs to go get some."

"And that brings me to my main point."

"Tommy being sick wasn't your main point?"

Shane hushed me.

"Can't believe you're making me do this." I grumbled to Shane as I sat in the passenger seat of the silver pickup me and Glenn were taking to go to the city.

"I'm not making you do anything. I just highly suggested it." He gave me a weak smile.

I rolled my eyes at him and turned to face out the front window.

"If you really don't want to do this, you don't have to Kade." He tilted his head to the side to glance at my face.

"But I do, Shane. I want to make sure Tommy gets the right medication, and I highly doubt Glenn even knows what Advil is."

"Thanks for believing in me Kade." Glenn rolled his eyes in my direction while he climbed into the driver's seat.
