[Jane's POV]
Today, my mom, Betty Crocker, came out with a new cake batter weirdly named Undead Chocolate Surprise; and for the first time ever, she is handing out free samples all over the world. I saw stands all over town today. Boy, do I ever want to try one! But, the name seems a bit fishy to me, so I will hold off on it. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at at door. I walked over and opened it. “Oh, Mr. Strider!” I yell as I throw my arms around him. He stumbles a bit before wrapping his arms around me. “Hello to you, too!” he chuckles. “I haven't seen you since graduation; far too long for my liking.” I sighed, my arms still around him. “Yeah, I agree,” he smirked. “did I tell you Jake and I broke up right after?” he muttered as we let go of each other.
“What?!” I exclaim. "You two were like two peas in a pod, what went wrong?”. “Well, uh, he stopped liking me and, fell for Roxy. She wasn't all too happy about the whole thing, either.” he replied sadly. “He told her his feelings and she turned him down pretty harsh but, he had it coming.”.
I pull him into a hug and pat his back. “Personally, I think it's his loss.” I say softly. Because I think you are a really great guy who deserves someone better than him, also I just wanted another reason to hug you; but you don't know that either.
[Dirk's POV]
I sigh into Jane's shoulder. Our height difference was ridiculous. Me being 6'1, her 5' 3. I was right about her being able to cheer me up in any situation. I don't even care about Jake anymore, what a big idiot he is for breaking up with me! Gah, like she said. His loss.
I put my arms loosely around her middle and put my chin on top of her head. “What d'you wanna do today, anything special? I mean, it is one of the rare times I make an appearance all the way from Texas.” I say with a fake dramatic voice, trying to cover my thick Texan accent. Curse that dumb thing. “Well, since you asked, I was hoping that we could just stay here and bake or something. Have a prank war, like the good 'ol days.” she replied with a smile as we pulled away.
I grinned, “Yeah, that sounds like fun.”. We pranked and baked the whole day. At the end of the day, about 6:00 pm., we crashed on the couch. “My, that was just like back in high school, we're just missing a few people.” Jane giggled. “Ah, who needs 'em?” I giggled with her. “Hoo hoo! Mr. Strider, your giggle is to die for.” she blushed beside me.
I became a bit flustered, but pulled together. “Why thank you, you're too kind to me, Janey.” I smirked and looked down at her. She squirmed a bit before grabbing my arm and putting it around her own shoulder. I chuckled and pulled her over to me. She turned some old-timey movie on for a while before we started growing tired. I heard soft snoring beside me. I looked down to see a sleeping Jane. She looks so small, so cute-. Hold up Strider, stop watching her sleep, you creep! I mentally scolded myself.
I picked her up gently and held her bridal style. I walked up the stairs to her bedroom and lie her down on her bed, tucking her in. I gently placed a kiss on her forehead. I could have sworn I saw her smile, I brushed it off. Luckily, she had a spare bedroom, which I now took.
[Jane's POV]
I woke up to a loud beeping from the radio. “Warning: New outbreak in baking industries nation wide. A day after Crocker's new peculiar cake batter, what seems like an undead apocalypse has broken out around the globe. I recommend you do NOT leave your homes. Stay inside until further notic- MARLENE THEY'RE COMING, SPEED IT UP! Luke! Be patient I am trying! Anyway folks, just, heed this warning and please, please, please, please listen to me. Stay. Inside.” static cut it off.
