Chapter 12: The Sickness
When I woke up the following morning, I was so grateful that it was Sunday and I had no work. Checking my phone, I saw I had one text message.
Smiling excitedly, I began typing back.
Throwing my phone down on me bed, I got up and headed for my shower to do my usual morning routine. I ate breakfast and decided I'd go for a jog since Lucy was probably still asleep. Changing into some shorts and a sports bra, I grabbed my phone and joggers and headed out. As I called the elevator, it opened and there standing was Adrian."Maya!" He beamed excitedly.
"Officer Boroughs," I smirked flirtatiously.
"You going for a jog?" He asked, stepping out of the elevator and stood right next to me.
Nodding my head, I responded. "Yeah. Where were you?"
"Oh I was off work this morning, so I went out with Vera choosing a gift for Abigail. It's her birthday next week,"
I did a double take. "Wait. Vera? As in your ex wife, Vera?"
Adrian nodded his head. "Yeah, well, I wanted to buy Abigail something I know she'll definitely like so I asked Vera to meet me since she knows her daughter better than I do,"
The thought of him going out with his ex wife bugged me. It irked me. It shouldn't but I don't know why, but it did. I didn't want to be this person. Someone who gets jealous easily and feels this way. But I'd be lying if I said a small part of me wasn't jealous of Vera. She's stunning and she was his wife. They've kissed. Had sex. Gone out together on dates. Even though they're over, it's not impossible that it stays that way.
"Maya? What is it?" He lifted my chin up.
Everything. I'm lost. "Nothing. I'll uh, talk to you soon. Bye," I quickly pressed the elevator button and the doors opened. I rushed in before he could ask me anything else and the doors closed just as I caught a glimpse of his confused state.
