Chapter Twenty-Six
Verin’s POV

I couldn’t resist of feeling victorious as Faolan stared at me in the way of defeat. Was it a bit mean of me to do that? Perhaps but he shouldn’t of lecture me about training if he hasn’t received them or didn’t remember them either. Well, there was that and his sudden excuse to get out of my arms before entering the training room.

Yes, I wanted a bit of revenge on that last part.

And yes, the little revenge thing was childish too.

“Well?” I asked, fighting back my amusement as he continued to stare at me as if I gave him his ultimate doom. “Aren’t you going to prove me wrong or right?”

His chest rose then fell while he let out a slow breath. “Can’t we just say you’re right and be done with it?”

Louis raised his eyebrows. “No because it’s been awhile since I gained any sparring partners.” He clapped Faolan on the back. “Now, come on! No need to be so scared, kiddo! I won’t beat your ass too much.”

Faolan nearly fell over from being clapped onto the back. A spike of concerned came through me as I wasn’t sure how much his back has healed. The concern faded when I noticed that Faolan didn’t seem in pain from it. Forcing the concern back for now, I shrugged. “Yeah, that wouldn’t be fair since that isn’t giving you a shot.”

He grimaced. “I really don’t want to do this.”

“You heard the lord.” Louis chided as he pushed Faolan towards the middle of the training area. “His word is absolute to you so you can’t avoid his commands forever.”

He glanced back at me. “Master, can I please not—“

“No, I want to see this.” I interrupted instantly. I want to see if what you did was an actual fluke. That you telling me that you were that bitch’s guard was true or not. Because if Faolan was a guard, the things he had to do would be hardwired into him. Purposely drawing my eyes down his body, I couldn’t resist adding in a deeper tone, “Show me what you got.”

Faolan’s gaze flickered as he furrowed his eyebrows. It was like he didn’t understand what I was getting at. I raised my eyebrows at him before turning towards Louis.

“Want us to get started?”

“Yes.”

Louis nodded before he turned towards Faolan. “We will do hand to hand combat. The only way to win is to either pin the opponent down for ten seconds or your opponent isn’t able to get back up. The only rule is not to use dirty tricks. Also, I will be removing my armor to give you---“

“No, you can keep it on.” Faolan said, shrugging. “If you think it’ll slow you down then feel free. I don’t mind whether you use a weapon or not either.” He glanced around a bit, warily. “Do I really have to do this?”

“I’ll be removing it because it’ll be fair to you.” Louis repeated. “And yes, you have to because Lord Verin said so.”

He sighed and nodded, instantly depressed on how the situation came to be. “Yeah.” He muttered, rubbing the back of his neck.

Louis began to remove his armor from the hands to arms first. After that, he did his feet and legs so that the torso would be easier to remove. I didn’t pay much attention on how he removed them because it’d be weird to watch. Instead, my attentions were on Faolan, who look like he would like to be anywhere but there at that moment.

“Alright, did you want to be the one to initiate it or me?” Louis asked as he walked over to be standing in front of Faolan by a couple feet.

“You.” Faolan answered, quickly as he stared at him, warily.
