Faolan's POV
Okay, I would admit that I have no idea what I was doing. When I saw a blur in my left corner of my vision, I reacted on pure instinct. I heard the tweak of a bow in the distance as well. So, of course, I shoved Verin out of the way as I knew that he was the target. Someone that was out to kill wasn't going to kill someone as low status as Vetis was--- no, they'll aim for the highest one possible.
Truthfully, I shouldn't of grabbed Verin the way that I did but it was the quickest way to get him on his feet and start running. I ran as fast as I could, whether Verin stumbled or not didn't matter to me. I wasn't going to stop until I knew we were safe.
"Where is the library?" I called out to the two males as I took a sharp right turn. "I don't know Verin's father's smell well enough to locate him."
"It's the same office that you were outside of, listening into the conversation." Verin spoke up, sounding quite subdued, which sparked some concern from me. Verin was not a submissive person. Perhaps there was a storm brewing and he was going to burst into curses and yells soon? Secretly, I hoped so as that was the demon that I know.
"Okay, I remember that vaguely." I answered but I wasn't going to question it anymore. Time was an essence here and I need to keep it on my side. Breathing in, I took in the scents and took a sharp right turn, catching on a scent that was familiar. Trusting my instincts, I hurried along while the two struggled to keep up with my pace. I kept running down this hall and another hall on the left. This place felt like a maze but I refused to stop until we reached our destination. The walls, lights, and carpet were all a blur to me as I stubbornly followed the trail.
Before I know it, Verin jerked me to a stop. "Faolan, you almost went past it." He told me, rolling his eyes. "I get the urgency but you got us here less than the normal time." He tapped my hand to tell me to let him go, which I did a bit reluctantly. "In fact, you did it in half time."
"Good." I answered easily as I pointed at the door. "Now hurry inside where it's safe."
Verin's gaze flashed his irritation about being told what to do. "Now look here---" He started but Vetis grabbed his arm and opened the office door, shoving him inside.
"Brought him." Vetis declared to Drago, who was the same hair and eye color of Verin. The only difference between the two was that he was taller and more muscular than Verin. "Oh, by the way, someone tried to take his life."
"Gee, tell him everything, will you?" Verin asked in a very smart ass tone. Maybe even a little sarcastic.
Drago's gaze flickered his concern. He got up. "Are you hurt?" He asked, sounding genuine. I mean, how could he not be? That was his first son and heir to his throne.
"No one was hurt." Vetis answered before Verin could give a rude reply. "Thanks to Faolan that is. He was able to detect the source and got him out line of fire."
His father had stood in front of Verin, scanning him to make sure he was alright. He sighed in relief and ruffled Verin's hair, who instantly growled and shoved his hand away. "Don't touch me." Verin muttered, uncomfortable with the sudden affection from his father.
Unaffected by his son's response, he turned his gaze to me. "You kept him safe?" He asked with a small tinge of disbelief or confusion in his tone.
