Change of POV
"You can't move so I expect you to be here. Rest when you can." He told me firmly before he started to head for the door. "I probably will be away for a couple hours, depending on the tasks he'll make me do today." He didn't wait for my response before he left the room and slammed it shut, more likely out of habit.
I flinched a little when he did but I decided to leave it be. After all, It wasn't like I had much of a choice in the matter of what he does to his bedroom door. I sighed softly and continued to eat the food that he brought me which may not be much but it definitely filled my stomach and tastebuds up.
"I should make sure to thank the cook later." I told myself out loud, impressed by the cooking and intrigued by the different types of food in the Underworld that seems similiar yet different from the Upperworld's food.
Yeah but you can barely move an inch without pain... Much less walk to thank the cook. The thought whispered though my mind easily. I grumbled and rubbed my face with my hand. I glanced up at the ceiling. "Geez, I used to never been this weak." I told the ceiling that can't speak back.
Sagging my shoulders, I went back to finishing the food I was given. After all, I needed all the strength I could muster and even with the powers of renegeration, it will still take me a couple days before I'm back to full strength. Yes, I will have some scars for the more deeper wounds.
Not all immortals can heal without scars.
But even if there was no physical scars, it was the mental yet unseen scars that were more effective.
I'm definitely the living proof of that by now. Shaking my head, I set the empty tray to the side before I stared blankly at the ceiling again. Well, this will be my new sight to see for a couple hours. I thought dryly, considering that nothing in the room interested me.
Could I easily look around this room to figure out what kind of man Verin was behind the doors that I was now put into? Yes, I could quite easily but I'm not that desperate. I didn't understand why but it was much more... fullfilling to get it from the source. To have him telling me on his own free will without me sneaking around for answers in his room.
True that I asked his family and been a nosy rat sometimes but sometimes my curousity gets a bit too strong. Honestly, I do know when not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong but my ears seemed to be strained on anything about Verin that it was driving me crazy.
But look where that got you. It got you whipped like an abused puppy, still wagging it's tail afterwards to gain back it's master's attention. Such cruel thoughts whispered through my mind again. It made a bitter, angry yet helpless feeling overwhelm me. I tucked my hand under my chin as I turned my gaze to the floor instead, elbow resting on the chair's arm.
I'm not trying to get his attentions back. I growled at my conscience.
Yeah, right! If you aren't then why aren't you snarling? It mocked me.
Even I have to pick my own battles. I shot back.
Which is never. It snarled back at me, angrily.
I stopped at that realization. Furrowing my eyebrows, I continued to stare at the ground. Was that... True? Have I... become weak? I haven't tried to escape. I haven't snarled or fight him. Instead I've been a coward like, as my thoughts put it, an abused puppy. Now, my emotions feel so conflicted.
I was angry and helpless because I never been so far gone before. I never succumbed to something I wasn't before. I never broke before but after days, weeks or maybe months of abuse... I must of cracked. I had cracked, no question about it. Now I'm walked over like pieces of trash and I didn't care besides keeping myself alive.
