I felt the cold breeze of the wind that silently kisses my skin. It was Saturday, I heard my parents' conversation last night that they would hire a tutor again for me and it would probably start today.
I hoped that it would last, because sadly, no one could stay long to teach me.They said I was awful in being a student."Sirene!"
It was my Nanny Betty, she was with us for a long time now, and was one of my favorite people because she could endure my attitude. She helped me in sitting down in my usual spot in our dining area. The food smelled deliciously which was an enough reminder of how starving I was already.
"Where's Mom and Dad?"
It was as if she was hesitating to answer me because it took her a minute to speak.
"They have an out of the country business trip in New York. Mr. Camble will be here this afternoon to tutor you."
My parents were always busy in our business. They always left me with Nanny Betty. Though I'm used to it but still it hurts that they couldn't spare a little time for me.
"I'm Jano Camble, nice to meet you Sirene."
Based on his voice I think he was too young to be my tutor. Why on earth did my parents hire a minor?
"So shall we start our lesson?"
I raised my hand before he continued.
"Are you sure you are my tutor? You're just a highschooler right?"
He laughed as if I was cracking a joke.
"Yeah. I'm a senior high school student. Do you have any problem with that?"
Before I said a word, I felt his hand touch mine, it was soft and gentle as he guided me silently.
"This is letter L."
I know how to figured out letters using Braille. Yes I was blind. I could't help but envy those people who could see the beauty of the world because I couldn't. It was my fate to live forever in the darkness.
"What's next Sirene?"
His voice was sweet as he uttered my name. Why do I feel so nervous knowing he was an inch away from me?
"Sirene are you with me?"
I coughed nervously.
"Y-yeah. It's letter O right?"
"Ah-huh next is V and?"
"E-e?"
"Magic word is?"
I combined the four letters that results the word,
"Love?"
He clapped his hand in enthuasiasm.
"Exactly! Love and what do you mean by that?"
Did he want me to define what love is? He's suppposed to discuss important things to me maybe about how the planet revolves around the orbit or what is science and biology but love?
"Mr. Camb---"
"Love is not blind. Even with your eyes close you can still feel and imagine the happiness it can bring surrounds you."
I didn't answered. My mind was completely drown by his words.
"I know this not easy for you. But I'm telling you that even though you can't see the world, remember that the world sees you and your beauty."
He held my hand. It was warm and comforting.
"With love, we can see things with a brighter perspective. It gives you hope and happiness. Being imperfect makes us human. Smile and live your life to the fullest Sirene."
He made me see things with my blinded eyes. He was my hope and happiness.
