Chapter thirteen….Day one, and I had blood.
I felt my legs slide out from beneath me before it happened. I was trying to recover from previous full I just had when my feet slipped and I went hurdling towards the ground once more. Artemis was teaching my first class for the day. She was attempting to show me how to hunt and track. A question I asked was ‘Why the heck do I need to know that?’ but she just smiled and said “Some day it may be useful.” Brilliant words of wisdom. On my not-so-graceful decent to the forests floor I hit like, ten branches until I landed on my side. I yelped in pain as I hear the cracking of bones.
“Ouch, ouch, ouchy. Ahhh….fffuuucckkk!” I rolled onto my back clenching my broken pelvis. Yes it is broken, how do I know? Cause there’s a bone sticking out of my fucking skin. I heard footsteps from behind me, and I moved my head to look. A man stood looking at me. His hair was cut short and he looked about my age, but his eyes told me a different story. His eyes glowed a white light, a light that looked so familiar; and a long cut ran down his right check. I cried as a sharp pain kicked at me, he winced and came over to inspect the damage.
“Such a poor bird, but don’t worry, I’ll save you.” He said. I wanted to move away from him. As soon as the first words left his mouth I knew he wasn’t right in the head, but I was in so much pain. He bent down and touched the bone. I screamed and birds took fright and scattered from the trees around us. Hot tears ran from my eyes sending my vision blurry. “Hush now, all will be fine.” He placed both of his hands on either side of the bone and I tried to move but he stopped me.
“Please, don’t” I whimpered, but he didn’t listen. His hands began to glow and the pain became too much to bare and I slipt into darkness.
I snapped awake and puked everywhere. It wasn’t pretty. I looked around and saw that I was in the same place as I fell, and there was no pain. I pulled my shirt up and searched for a mark, but nothing. There was nothing. And there was no man. My brain clicked in that minute as I remember where I had seen the man from. He was in that dream. The one Samuel was in, and he was holding my soul. He put me back into my body, that guy.
“Tomorra!” someone was calling me. “Tomorra!” and the voice was music to my ears. I’ve only heard it a few times, but I know who it belongs to. A feeling of joy blooms in my heart, and I get up carefully. I’m still freaked out about what just happened to me. Who was he? And where did he go? But right now all I can think of is Samuel.
“Samuel!” I screamed. It was hard to tell where he was, everything echoed here. “Samuel, where are you!?”
“I’m coming, just stay there!”
I wrapped my arms around myself. Where was Artemis? She was meant to be teaching me! It was only day one, and I wanted blood. Like seriously, what kind of person just leaves their responsibility in the middle of a forest? One of which I have no knowledge of, something is wrong with these people. Last night Aphrodite came and saw me, she said I had training. So I was like, yeah okay, and I got up before the break of drawn (Not like I slept well anyway), got ready, grabbed some food from the kitchen and headed to the lake. I sat there for about an hour, not doing anything because I just didn’t want to. I was quite happy breathing in the fresh air. I had dug my fingers into the dirt and watched it fall threw them, crumbling away to nothingness. I acted like a kid and ran around like an idiot and fell, accidently into the lake, and did not go for a swim; I’m lying, I so did. And I enjoyed the freedom I had. The memories of my life didn’t seem so real then, they were just something I heard about on the news. The memories weren’t mine but someone else’s. The threat of depression lingered under the surface of my mental walls but made no move to break the boundaries. I laid on the grass waiting for the sun to warm my bones and for Artemis to come. When she did I was half asleep. She shook me awake and gave me a funny look.
