THE RUNAWAY

The house slowly fade away in the moonlight as I continued my journey. I passed by houses, chickens, goats and other animals. Families gathered around the kitchen table having dinner or around the television watching dramas.

As I passed by a quiet, wet alleyway, I heard rumbling sounds coming from the boxes by the trash can.

I picked up some courage as I went towards it. My heart beat increased as I neared it. As I stood in front of the boxes, the boxes moved and charged towards me. I jumped. It charged and hit the wall. The impact causes the box to fly backwards, which nearly hit me. Under that very box was an one-year-old skinny, unfed dog, which chestnut coloured fur was coated with a thick layer of dust, and several scars which were caused by the leather belt around its neck. The suffering dog looked at me with its hazel large pleading eyes.

Without any hesitation, I loosen the belt and remove it from the dog. I tossed the belt away. The dog looked at me with joy and wagged its tail so fast that it may come off.

'It seems you were thrown out huh?' I bend down and pet its head. People abusing animals. They really need to find new hobbies.

'I'm running away too. Wanna come along?' It licked me. 'I'll take that as a yes.' I paused and looked at the lonely dog. He too was alone like me, yet I see more happiness in him.

'You know what? I'll call you Glee. Glee, as in happy.' It seems to like the idea.

The boxes gave me an idea. I could stay here for the night and depart tomorrow.

I took one of the boxes and ripped it open and used it as the base. The two trash cans became support for my roof. It may look inhabitable, but it is better sleeping on the ground. As I lay down, I started to think about my home, my comfortable bed and my mother. Will she be alright? No. I must not let such thoughts disturb me now.

Glee walked next to me with a limp on its hided right leg. It turned 360 degrees and slept beside me, snoozing away to dream land. I closed my eyes for a second and breathe. I didn't realised that the alleyway smells like rotten fish.

Suddenly, a bright white beam shot from the end of the alleyway, and I knew, the end was a wall. I decided to check it out. The beam began to expand until the size of an average human. Glee hid behind another trashcan. I went forward to touch it and my hand penetrate through the hole.

It must me a portal.

'I wander where does this leads to?' As I was about to put my leg across the portal, a girl shot out and did a back roll, but failed and rolled to where Glee was. Glee ran away in horror. I couldn't make out how did she looked like due to the white hood was covering her face. She looked like an assassin from assassin creed.

I went over to help her up.

'Are you alright? '

'Get away! It's coming?' She sounded horrified. As she jumped up, her hood fell. She looked around my age. Her copper skin covered in scars and the shoulder length black hair danced in the strong wind caused by the portal.

Her amber eyes looked at me and said, 'Run.'

It was too late. The portal sucked us in. Where's Glee?

Inside the portal was nothing but swirling darkness with purple flames dancing around us. The flames merged together and morph a shape of a ghostly figure. It looked like a nightmare.

The girl held her head high, as if the battle is not over yet. The golden blade in her hands glowed brightly. She charged towards the monster, dodging every smoke it blasted, but sadly, it hit her and she just collapsed into a sleep. As the monster neared her, her facial expression changed. From a peaceful sleep to a horrifying nightmare.

I ran over, picked up the blade and slashed the monster. The monster turned into smoke and diffused away.

The girl woke up.

'You okay?' I helped her up.

'You shouldn't have seen that or do anything. It is my battle, not yours.' She looked at me with a pair of furious eyes, 'I could have destroy that monster myself if you weren't there!'

'What did I do?!'

'You've seen too much. You know too much.'

Before she could kill me or anything, the monster came back.

'It's regenerating.' She grabbed my hand and run, but it was too late. I was shot and inhaled the smoke. I felt drowsy and the world above me w spinning. I saw nothing and I couldn't wake up.
