I got a call almost after I rolled up my driveway.

Steven was telling me there was a flaw in his dare-

"You said I have to run down the hallway tomorrow, tomorrow's Wednesday, Jack." he sounded annoyed.

Opening the door to find my mother in the kitchen, I told him he could do it Thursday-

"Jack, that's not how it works!"

Mom peeked around the corner, "Jack? Are you on the phone?"

Hearing Steven's loud voice in one ear, I looked into her eyes and told Steven bye-

"HOLD UP, JACK-"

Walking around to her, I smiled, "Hey, mom." I gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Her dark eyes looked up from the food she was preparing- Yes!- tacos.

"Hello.." she said tiredly.

My eyebrows drew together and I slung my backpack down on the couch, "What's wrong?"

Sighing, she stopped her hands and rested them on the counter.

"Michelle.. is.. sick." her voice broke. My eyes widened, "A-aunt Chelly?"Mom gave a nod, her eyes closed.

"They're saying.. its the flu."

I put my hands under her elbows, "Mom, you need to sit down." sitting her in a chair at the table, I took a seat beside her.

Mom looked across the table, her eyes half closed.

Her hair was in a messy bun, dark strands carressed her face, and the apron she was wearing had tomatoe juice.

The sickness was worst than I thought..

"I-isn't she expecting her baby in January..?"

Mom nodded, "They don't know.. if it has spreaded to the baby, and they don't know if sh-sh-"

I crouched beside her to keep her upright.

"Mom, what did you hear?"

It took her a moment to compose herself, taking a deep breath.

"She has been running a high fever and been sick for a week as of today, her baby seems to be healthy, and still is to be expected in January- maybe the middle or end."

I took her hands in mine, "Mom, she's going to be okay- she's your sister, and as far as I know, anyone with Kingsley blood puts up a fight against little illnesses."

She smiled, her eyes looked weary, "Y-yeah.."

Mom fought cancer when she was fifteen, it disappeared after three years.

Smiling lightly, I stood up.

She sighed as I went to the fridge, "You're right.. but Michelle.."

I closed the door after grabbing her a powerade, handing it to her as I sat down.

"Michelle will be alright, mom. Her baby will be healthy." I smiled, "It's okay."

Taking a large drink, she sat back in her seat. "Yeah, you're r-" she belched, "Right." she laughed.

I chuckled, "You're even better than me at that, mom."

Giving a warm smile, she chugged down two large gulps, sat the bottle on the table and belched in the most un-lady like manner possible. Falling backwards in my seat, I laughed as she finally stopped belching. Six seconds!

"I-I made some tacos, there are chips in the cabinet." she smiled.

I almost got up to get myself some food- man I was starving, but then stopped myself.

"I'm going to the park this weekend." I said, "Just wanted to let you know."

Her eyebrow rose, "When does Jack Kingsley ever go to the park?" she questioned.

Giving a roll of my eyes I told her this:

"Ha ha, very funny."

"Seriously," she laughed, "You never get out of the house unless its for a party or school activity, what're you going for?"

My stomach sank.

Did I really want to lie to her..? When Michelle is sick...?

I couldn't reschedule it.. I didn't know Soren's number-

Which I wasn't going to ask for.

"I'm just going out, okay?" I looked at her with a smile, "You're always saying I should get out."

"When its summertime, not when its cold and you have to wear a jacket."

"Well, I'm still going."

She nodded, "Okay, thanks for telling me."

Ugggggggggggggggggggggggh...

Did I really want to tell her the truth?

What I could say:

"Actually mom, I'm going on a date with this boy named Soren."

"Actually, there's this boy named Soren, and I kinda like him, and I'm going on a date."

"I'm going on a date."

"Steven dared me to date this guy named Soren, who I've barely met.

And I can't back out of the dare,

So I'm going out with him tomorrow."

She smiled as I quietly got me a taco, wrapping it with a napkin-

What I actually said : "I'm going to my room."

To sit and think about Soren probably.

Ugggggggggggh..

What was wrong with me?

I wasn't gay.

..... but I blushed when he talked to me, and my stomach twisted when talking to him.

That was probably just the sickness I felt about having to go on a date with a guy.

... Hopefully
