Alexa stretched her legs on the coffee table in front of the couch she was sitting on. She let her head fall back on the couch pillows, sighing as she relaxed a bit. Moments like this one were rare and she couldn't bring herself to refuse spending even two minutes like this.
But it didn't last long, like always, because she heard a shriek of wooden floor, causing her to jolt up from her seat, immediately getting ready to fight. Her eyes narrowed at the darkness of the room, making out a dark silhouette of a man.
"Who are you?" She questioned the intruder, breaking one of the rules her teacher had taught. First strike, ask questions later. Because if you made a mistake and let your guard down just for a moment, you'd be dead before you know it.
The man grunted, cocking his head and coming into the light. "Is that what Stan taught you?" He mocked. She wasn't sure who he was or what intentions were but something told her they already knew each other. In some way. "Mitch Rapp." He finally answered.
"Rapp," She said dropping her combat pose, "I heard about you." He remained standing while she crashed back onto the couch.
He shook his head. "I thought you were better than to just drop your guard like this, Alexa." He spoke, running a hand through his dark hair, proceeding to scan the whole room.
It was a dark room, the dim light was enough to just barely make out the edges of furniture and items scattered around. The air was heavy with a strong smell of alcohol and smoke, something Mitch wouldn't expect to witness in a house of a nice looking woman. He tried searching for the said alcohol or cigarettes, but there were none.
"You smoke?" He asked, walking forward until he reached the beige colored armchair, taking his place there.
"Do you?" She replied, somewhat cocky and he wasn't sure if he liked that or not. It was sure, even at the first sight, that the girl was difficult to work with. She seemed to be sarcastic, stupid enough to be brave and undoubtedly sexy, which just made Mitch frustrated.
He huffed, his jaw visibly clenching. He was irresistible to look at, and she wasn't the one to look away if she didn't want to. "No, neither should you." The male assassin scratched his chin, taking one final glance over the room.
Alexa let a laugh slip past her lips. "Do you want something to drink? I've got some nice scotch. Highland Park '91." She smiled as if proud of being an owner of such an extraordinary drink. She stood up, light on her feet as she walked to the cabinet on the other side of the room. "You know, Stan talked about you a lot." She stated while pouring the expensive drink into two glasses until they were half full.
"Oh yeah? What did he say?" Mitch asked as he took the opportunity to sneak behind her, not making any sound as a sign he was doing so. He could be very careful, but he was reckless at the times which was his worst flaw.
"Well, he said that you were good. Very good at that." Alexa replied, ready to turn around but Mitch was quick to wrap his arm around her neck, pulling her into him as she choked for air.
"Got you." He whispered into her ear, the smirk audible in his words. She grunted and swiftly pinned him to the ground, leaving him in shock. He wanted to stand up, but she stepped on his throat, cutting the air off from going to his lungs.
"He also said that you're reckless. And that's not acceptable when you're doing this job. But I suppose he already told you that." She said, quickly taking her foot off of his neck and applying a firm kick onto the side of his torso. He yelped in pain, but she didn't bother helping him up as she made a step over his body, heading back to the sitting furniture.
He slowly stood up, rubbing the area she kicked him in to ease the pain. "Like you are better than me." Rapp scoffed. The brown haired woman smirked, bringing the glass to her lips.
