I woke up this morning feeling like crap. After everything that happened last night, I don’t even want to get out of bed. Trevor texted me about ten times and left me four voicemails. After I left the party, I walked all the way home. Nicole called me about fifteen times. I didn’t want talk to Trevor or Nicole. I didn’t want to talk to anyone.
My mother walked into my bedroom.
“Angela, time to get up sweetie,” she said.
“Okay, mommy.”
“Are you okay? You came home from that party really early,” she asked with concern.
“I just wasn’t feeling well.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, mommy.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“I’m fine, ma,” I responded irritated.
“Okay, baby.”
She walked out of the room.
I decide to put Trevor out of his misery and finally respond to his calls. He picked up on the second ring.
“Hey, sweetheart. Oh my god! Are you okay?”
“Yeah, babe. I’m fine.”
“What happened? Nicole said that you went to talk to Tyler. Five minutes later you come running down the stairs crying. What did he say to you?”
“Why don’t you ask him that?” I said pissed.
“I did. He just said he told you the truth.”
“Fuck that; ask him what the fuck he did.”
“Damn, are you that mad that you have to curse?”
“Hell yeah, I’m pissed.”
Trevor sighed and asked, “Okay, calm down, baby. What did he do?”
I took a deep breath and said, “Okay, so, remember that ‘mystery girl’ he was talking about?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m the mystery girl.”
There was a long pause.
“What?” Trevor said gobsmacked.
“He told me that he was in love with me and then he kissed me.”
“I’m going to kill him.”
“No, babe he-”
“He crossed the freaking line.”
“Trevor, plea-” I pleaded.
“I got to go.”
The phone went dead. Maybe telling Trevor what happened wasn’t the best idea. I jump out of bed and into the shower. I don’t take as long as I normally would. I need to get to Trevor before he does something he regrets.
I rush to get dressed and get out the house. I knew Trevor wouldn’t come pick me up so I had to walk to the school. As soon as I – out of breath - reached the school front yard, out in front is Trevor and he doesn’t seem too happy. I walk up to him and hug him. He just stood there.
“Why are you outside?” I asked as if I didn’t already know.
“Waiting for Tyler,” he spoke sternly with a straight face, no looking at me.
“Trevor, don’t do this.”
“No, he kissed you.”
“It’s okay, I love you,” I said sincerely.
He finally looked down at me and stated, “I love you, too. But he crossed the line.”
Before I can say anything, Tyler’s car pulls up. I’m scared. What is Trevor going to do?
Tyler steps out the car and walks toward us, smiling and said “Sup, bro?”
“Tyler, I’m going to ask you this only once, did you kiss Angela?”
Tyler’s face changed. He paused for a millisecond.
“Yes, and I’m so sorry,” Tyler admitted.
Before I could even blink, Trevor punched Tyler in the face. Tyler fell to the ground hard. I froze. Tyler rose slowly. His nose is bleeding.
“Dude, what the hell?” Tyler roared.
“How could you betray me like that?”
“Trevor, I’m so sorry.”
“You know what, I should’ve known. The way you talked about her, it sounded just like Angela. I just didn’t pay close attention. But guess what, I don’t need to get revenge on you. I bet Arianna didn’t tell you what happened last year?” Trevor stated; he was ready for another fight.
“What are you talking about?”
“Oh, so she didn’t tell you.”
“Trevor, what are you saying?”
“I fucked your girl,” Trevor said slowly.
My eyes widened. I think he just realized what he said, because he turned to face me with so much regret written on his face. My eyes started to well up with tears.
“You cheated on me?” I finally spoke.
“No, Angela, it’s not like that. I-” Trevor tried to explain while coming up to me.
I stopped him in his tracks when I said, “You lying bastard. Why would you do that to me?”
“I don’t know. Arianna came on to me.”
“FUCK YOU!”
I run into the school and head straight to the bathroom. Tears flow out of my eyes as I start to sob. I heard a toilet flush. I grab a paper towel to wipe my eyes. As soon as the stall door opens, Arianna steps out.
“Hi, Angie,” she says.
Arianna was the last person I needed to see right now.
“Arianna, can I talk to you?” I said nonchalantly, expressing no emotions.
“Of course, sweetie. Have you been crying?” she said as she looked into my face.
“Did you sleep with Trevor last year?”
She paused and then asked, “Who told you that?”
“Trevor. Is it true?”
“Well, yeah, but-“
Before she could finish, I slapped her. She fell against the sink and I felt a shake in the ground. I stomped out the bathroom and out school doors. I have no regrets and feel no remorse.
