The people brought us down to our knees and held guns to our faces. I was so heartbroken that I didn't care anymore.
"Shoot me or get that damn thing out of my face." I said as looked up at him. I started to stand up. "I just lost my only family I had left so if you shot me you better make it count." The pushed me back down and put something sharp in my neck. "What the hell!"
"Autumn Shaw." said the lady in front of me.
"That's Murphy for you. Causing trouble when he's not even here." said Doc.
"English. Do you speak it?" asked Warren.
"I don't think she understands you." Hector said. The started speaking in Mandarin again and did the needle thing to Hector. "You'd better take me out quick because I'm real good with faces if you know what I mean."
I looked over at Warren and saw she was twiddling her fingers which means get ready for a surprise attack.
"Now!"
I slammed my head back into his gut and slammed his head down on my knee. I got his gun and pointed at him as I looked around. Only Warren and I got a gun and we were outnumbered. We looked at eachother and gave the guns back and sat back down.
"Thought that was gonna go a different way." I said looking at the guy behind me that I just took down. "Sorry."
"You and me are gonna have some words." Warren said looking at the lady in charge.
Murphy P.O.V
"That's it, Captain. Put your back into it. In two minutes, I want this place in my rearview mirror. Exploding submarines tend to attract the wrong kind of attention." I said. I saw one of the soldiers only picked up one thing so I concentrate on him to pick up more.
"Better. Let's move!" I yelled. I looked over and saw the kid had woken up.
"What happened? Where is everybody?"
"This way, kid."
"We gotta find Doc and Addy and Warren. I need to get back to Autumn."
"We're going our own way now."
"We kept you alive all the way to California. Where are you going?"
"To start a new world." I yelled back.
"I'm not going anywhere with you, Murphy." I smiled and told him to get in the jeep which is what he did. Biting that kid was the best thing I could have done.
Autumn P.O.V
"Hold still." She said as she took Warren's blood.
"So you do speak English."
"Lieutenant Roberta Warren."
"And who the hell are you?"
"There's no cure in that blood." Addy said before they took her blood too.
"Addison Carver."
"Does it mention that I don't play well with others? Cuz I don't."
"Steven Beck."
"You can call me Doc. I'm not actually a board certified physician. I just Nevermind. Ow. Now I know how Murphy feels. Let me know what you find. I've been having some weird dreams."
They went over to Hector next and they started to read his info.
"Murder, kidnapping, battery, public indecency."
"Career opportunities in my neighborhood were somewhat limited. We get the friends we deserve."
"Operation Bite Mark. Where is Murphy?"
"Who wants to know?" asked Warren.
"Murphy's blood is our mission."
"Have you seen a kid with black spiky hair and goggles? He was on that submarine with Murphy." I asked as the got us up to start moving. They didn't answer and just made us keep walking.
Murphy P.O.V
As we were driving, we stopped and one of the general called out that there were Z's running down the hill.
"Where?"
"There."
"Zombies carrying weapons?" asked Merch.
"Those aren't Zs. Back in the vehicle." As we got back in the got closer so I looked at 10k and the soldiers. "Kill them."
They killed everyone of them but we lost 2 of the soldiers. "The Apocalypse has gotten worse. Starvation and killing is all that's left. Last stop for humanity. Everybody off."
Autumn P.O.V
We continued walking until we heard a plane go over us and something fell out of it with a parachute.
"That yours?"
"Hurry. We must reach the supply drop before anyone or anything else."
There was a hoard of Z's in front of us and they started shooting crazy.
"You got silencers?"
"Why are they wasting so many bullets?" I asked.
"I guess they've never heard of a kill shot." said Warren.
"Well I'm happy to let somebody else do the zombie slaying for a change." said Doc.
"I'm getting a little tired of being somebody's prisoner." said Addy.
There were even more Zs' and we were getting super nervous.
"It would be super cool not to be handcuffed right now." said Addy.
"What are they waiting for?"
They threw a ball and waited as it started to beep. All the Zs' went toward it and then these lights started beaming at the zombies head. Then there was a humming noise and the little ball shot out something that killed all the Zs'.
One Z's survived was starting to come towards us when Warren tripped it and used her feet to break its neck.
"I give you mercy."
"We're better when we can use our hands. Can we get our weapons now?" Warren asked. But they continued to talk in a different language and we kept walking.
"You have me at a disadvantage. You know me, but I don't know you." said Warren.
"I'm Dr. Sun, a virologist from Laos, trained in Beijing."
"Beijing survived?" asked Addy.
"No. Only 200,000 citizens remain."
"That's why they call it the Apocalypse." said Doc.
"We fell back behind the walls of the Forbidden City. The best scientists and leaders from all over Asia."
"You have supplies, an aircraft, an army, but no cure." I said.
"Our efforts to create a vaccine have failed. We must harvest antibodies and platelets from The Murphy."
Murphy P.O.V
10k ran off as we stopped our vehicle but I let him run for a little bit before making him come back.
"What's happening? I don't understand."
"Get in. We need to keep moving. The further we get away from the humans, the better." The trees started to crack. "What is that? 10K.?" He raised his weapon and was ready to fire when a ball of a bunch of zombies came out.
"What is it?" asked Merch.
"Zombies eating zombies." I said.
"But why?"
"They're starving. Not enough humans left to eat."
I watched as a ball of Z's were eating themselves as they went by like a big ball.
"I can't watch." said Merch
"Don't turn away. Face the future. Without me, this is how the world ends. No humans. Just starving Zs."
"What about Zona?" asked Merch.
"Without my blood, the flatulent rich of Zona will meet a less dignified end than these poor bastards."
"They won't give up so easily."
"Nor will I."
"What will you do with me?" Asked Merch.
"Merch, my good doctor. You will help bring Murphy to the masses. You'll be part of history. The Age of Blends is inevitable. My gift to this cesspool of a world." I said.
"Cheer up, 10K. Put our brothers out of my misery."
"I give you mercy." He said as he shot the Z's. I started to smile.
"What?"
"You've stopped counting."
Autumn P.O.V
"What is mercy?" asked Sun.
"You don't do that in Asia?"
"No."
"It's a ritual that we do for the dead and the dying."
"But you mercy zombies."
"Yeah, well we give them mercy for the life that came before, as a reminder that they used to be human. And I used to be human too." I said. We stopped for a break and the took of the handcuffs. They each gave us water to drink and some food.
"Wow, brother. I was parched." said Doc.
"I've decided to return your weapons. Don't make me regret this decision." She said. She gave me my gun back that was 10k.
"Thanks"
"We've learned many things from surveillance. We saw Ms. Carver's modified bat and designed one of our own."
"What's this?" Addy asked as she pushed a button. The bat turned electric and it was awesome.
They gave out the rest of our weapons that were now full of ammo.
"Alright, let's move out." Sun said as we started walking. After awhile of walking, she came up to me. "You've been with Murphy since the beginning, haven't you?"
"Pretty much."
"You know him better than anyone."
"I don't know if anybody knows the Murphy."
"But you will help us find him."
"When we find him, you'll make a vaccine? " I asked.
"Yes. I'll need to get Murphy's blood back to my lab on the ship so that I can."
"You have a ship?" I asked.
"An aircraft carrier. We required all the available fuel in Pan Asia for our journey here. My people sacrificed greatly for this chance at a cure."
"And this supply drop we're chasing?"
"We will have what we need to complete the mission. We cannot fail. This is our last hope."
"And the cure, It's for everybody, right?" I asked.
"Of course." We continued walking as we followed her tracker. "The drop was blown off course, but we are close."
We came up to a factory and I saw of cloth on the roof.
"Hey, is that a piece of parachute?" I said pointing at it.
"Did it get shot down?" Asked Doc. The supply drop must've crashed through the factory roof.
"Let's hope my gear is intact." said Sun
"Warren. Those Zs are fast." said Doc.
"They sure don't look like Zs." said Warren.
"Damn." said Hector
"What?"
"Enders."
"They some kind of hyper crackhead zombies?" I asked.
"They're worse than zombies. They're humans, but their brains are fried."
"We're not the only ones that see the parachutes." said Addy.
"Put your dancing shoes on. It's gonna be a party." said Warren.
We got into the factory and started to make our way around to avoid making noise and drawing attention
"It's that way. 800 meters. Be very cautious." Sun said.
"Lady runs a tight ship. Nice to have a little muscle between us and whatever." Said Doc.
We miss all the fun? Some had more fun than others.
"The zombies want brains, but what do the enders want?" Asked Warren.
"To put us out of our misery before we put them out of theirs." said Hector.
"How much further?"
"That way."
"Which way? I don't see anything."
We walked around the corner and shoots started to ring out. We ducked down and took cover but many of the soldiers were killed and one of the Enders grabbed the ball grenade and threw it. The ball went of before anyone could react and killed all the soldier but one which pierced him to the wall.
"You guys okay?"
Doc and I went over to him and the only way to get him out was to pull him from the wall.
"It's gonna hurt." I said. "You ready?"
He nodded at me and Doc and I pulled him out fast.
"I will be okay."
"I'm responsible for the deaths of these men. I swore to their families that they would return with the cure." said Sun kneeling down.
"Nothing you can do for them now but stay alive, okay? Keep your head in it." Warren said. We helped Mong up and continued walking until he collapsed.
Mong died in front of us, he was bleeding out to much. He started to get up and I looked at Warren..
"Lieutenant Mong!No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Mong, not you."
"You have to give him mercy." I said.
She held up her gun and looked at him. "I give you mercy."
She was crying as she put down her last soldier. I went to her and knelt down beside her.
"Let's go see about the supply drop. Come on." I said as I helped her up.
"These supplies better be damn awesome. I need a pick me up." said Doc.
"The drop is this way."
We got into the room that the drop was suppose to be in but it was gone.
"Damn. Somebody beat us to it." said Warren.
"My supply drop has been stolen. They got everything. Even the vehicle."
"And they drove that way." I said looking at the tracks.
"I have failed. My ancestors will never know peace."
"Well at least it wasn't our fault this time." said Doc.
"There's a reckoning coming. What do you think?" Addy asked.
"Time for a new plan. Call in another supply drop from your aircraft carrier." Warren said.
"I can't. There's nothing left to send. Besides, the radio is destroyed."
"When you drew our blood, what were you hoping to find?"
"Your journey with Murphy defied explanation. How have you survived for so long? Perhaps a biological anomaly is the answer."
I started to laugh. "Murphy didn't rub off on us. We rubbed off on him. We kept him going." I told her.
"Come on." Warren said standing over her.
"Why? I don't deserve to live when my failure have caused so many to die. My mission is over."
"Okay. Your mission failed. Fine. Get up. You're part of my mission now." Said Warren.
"Does this mean there's a new mission?" Doc asked.
"What about the Murphy?"
"We're gonna find Murphy. And when we do, you're gonna use his blood to make a vaccine and save this sorry assed world. You're my scientist now. This mission belongs to us. Not Hammond, not Garnett, and not the CDC. We survived for some cosmic reason. And I'm naming it. I have faith that you, you, and you, and you are here for this reason. It's up to us, nobody else." Warren said pointing at us.
"Damn. I got goosebumps. I'm in, Chief." Doc said.
"I'm at your service." Addy said.
"I'm in."
"Alrighty then. Let's find this blue son of a bitch." Warren said as a jeep pulled up beside us. "Speak of the Blue Devil."
"Well Look who's still alive. Roberta Warren."
"Murphy."
"The Murphy? Murphy"
"Well, looks like you've been busy making friends."
"Looks like you've been making friends too." Doc said.
"Funny. El Scorpion."
"It's not El Scorpion anymore. Just Hector."
"Oh. A little "Road to Damascus" moment there, eh Hector? Me too. I have seen the light."
"What happened to the submarine?" I asked.
"Total shit show. I got the hell out of there before the damn thing sank."
"You blew up the CDC lab?"
"There is no CDC, no government. Only Zona. A bunch of rich bastards trying to game the system. They can get their cure from someone else's blood. Plus, I took their doctor." Murphy said Warren started to get closer but he stopped her. "Ah-h-h. That's close enough. Wake up, Warren. This world is over. Come with me. Start the next world."
"And be your bitch blend? I don't think so."
"You make it sound so cheap."
"Murphy, we need you. We still can complete our mission. This is Dr. Sun. She traveled from Beijing just to find you. She can manufacture a vaccine And save humanity." said Warren.
"Blah blah blah. You really should hear yourself."
"Mr. Murphy, my people are waiting for us aboard a ship with a fully equipped lab." said Sun.
"Well that explains the broken radio. It only plays Chinese. Well, thanks for letting me borrow your ride by the way."
"That's my medical equipment." said Sun.
"Yeah. Borrowing that too."
"You can save my people, save everyone. I need to make this vaccine. Help me." said Sun trying to convince him.
"Sorry. No one is poking holes in me ever again. Unless I say so."
"Murphy, don't be an idiot. You cannot do this alone." said Doc.
"Yes, I can. But you can help me. All you have to do is get in the car. Forget about humanity, Warren. It's over. Join my mission. Heck, you can even bring Dr. Sun along too. Even Saint Hector there." He said.
Warren held up her gun and pointed it at him through the car window.
"Get out of the car."
"Seriously Roberta? Okay."
All of a sudden gunshots rang at our feet. We all backed up.
"Murphy." I started walking to the car with my hands up. "Murphy, where's 10k. Remember what you promised me?" I said as I reached the window.
"I'm sorry kid, if you come with me I promise I can help save this god forsaken world. Come with me and help me save this world."
"Why in the hell would I go with you. You promised you would protect my brother and take care of him. But you couldn't even do that." I said as I started to back away..
"Just so you know, I would do anything to protect you. No matter what. The offer will always stand with you." He looked over back at Warren."Time to choose. Me or what's left of humanity."
"Warner. Enders." Addy said pointing at the hill.
"Shit."
"Have it your way. It's Blend time. The humans lost the race. Just ask 'em."
We saw Enders coming down the hill towards us when someone shot them.
"And yet you've survived." Warren said as Murphy drove away.
Murphy P.O.V
"Am I your prisoner now?" 10k asked as we picked him up.
"How 'bout I try trusting you and let's see how that goes?" I said.
Autumn P.O.V
"The warning shot, the Enders, that had to be 10K, right? Who else can shoot like that?" I said convincing them that 10k was alive.
"We have to let him go. We are going to drive ourselves crazy." Doc said to me as he held me and I started to cry. I knew I had to keep his promise and keep moving on.
"I hope the keys are in there." Hector said as we found a truck. We looked and the keys were still in the ignition
"Okay. It's just us now. And we are going to stop Murphy from creating his damn race of Blends. Onto the new mission." Warner said as we got in the car and drove off.
