As a cool summer breeze fights the hot sun beating down on me i watch as our delivery guy pulls up. As he gets closer he gives me a look of disgust as i take a drag from my cigarette. He looks at me with a shaky gaze and I exhale the smoke. I just point to the door. "Ring the bell he'll pay if he hasn't already through his card tell him i'm almost done i'll be in in a second."
I smile to myself as he reaches for the doorbell. I laugh myself half to death when Dillion opens the door. I had already texted Dillion that the food was here. So seeing him scare the poor guy was priceless. As he regains his breath I reach in my bra and pull out a five. And hand it to the guy. "Here," I say handing it to the delivery guy who was holding his tan hat in one hand and his red work shirt in the other trying to calm down, "This is for your trouble keep it. It's not much but I hardly keep much money on me. I usually use my card." He smiles at me and glares at Dillion as he wipes his already greasy hands on his blue tank top.
He's such trash sometimes. But I love him. He couldn't wait he got the food and dived into his pizza. The delivery guy takes the money from me with a smile, "Thank you ma'am" He says with such a southern accent that I definitely did not miss. I don't know what it is but those voices never sounded like home to me. I always felt out of place. "I'm Jackson." He says as he heads to his car.
I hear Dillion behind me with a mouth full mumble, " I don't like him he's too serious." I laugh a little still thinking about Jackson's reaction. I reach my hand put for Dillion to pick me up , "Lindsey you can pick yourself up." I keep my hand up saluting him as I us the other hand to push myself up off of the ground. I grab my phone from the ground and head inside. As I walk past Dillion I grab my lemonade and buffalo wings from out of his clutches. I go to my couch and enjoy the cool house oppose to the hot outdoors.
I hear the door open as I make myself comfy on our small worn couch. It has definitely seen better days. I set my stuff beside me and grab my drink as Dillion walks through the door with fear written on his face. This boy got really high and streaked mid-day through time square because some dude on tv was dared to do it and wouldn't so his high ass did. Thankfully he was on his high school track team and went to state all four years. He got out of there before the cops showed up. So this is why his pale face and shaky walk concern me. I've never seen him afraid. Dillion just kind does not look like himself, as he did just minutes ago when he scared Jackson our poor delivery guy. "Hey Lin?" He asks slowly as he comes toward me in slow strides. His voice comes out in bated breathes and I swear he could pass out right there. I smile as a good joke comes to mind and i want to say it in hopes of calming him down enough to be back to normal but i pocket it for later. Scared it'll make things worse.
"Yes babe?" I hum in response as I struggle to open my drink. Its like the super glued it or maybe took too extra care into sealing it. He sits on the edge of our couch right by me and puts his head in his hands.
"We," He says almost in tears. Through my still not open drink on the couch and scoot down to the edge of the couch to comfort him. "Have to move." He says in one breath. Seems so petrified. I pull my lips to a line and try not to say a word.
"Move?" I ask looking to the floor. He must know i'm back. Trevor knows i'm here. But what could he of done to terrify Dillion so? I pretend not to know i want Dillion to say it I want my fears not speculated but confirmed. "Why do we have to move?"
Just as I ask He grabs me and holds me like a bride because you always said you wanna get married someday where the spring is perfect and the trees are bright and beautiful. I feel a pin of sadness. I love Dillion but we've been watching a lot of love movies with gangster movies where the girl goes with her psycho ex-boyfriend to save her current love. I guess I've just been scared i
ll be put in similar situations if Trevor ever found out i'm back. But shouldn't I be happy Trevor doesn't know? I just sit there kinda quiet and zoned out. "How about Maine?" I hear Dillion as bringing me out of my trance.
"Huh?" I ask as I push hair from my face. He gives me a questioning look. "Babe," I respond hoping to redeem myself, "I'm just really tired and hungry that cigarette really mellowed me out. I think I wanna stay here maybe move there a year before the wedding to prepare but I think i wanna stay here a while longer."
He sets me back in my spot and hand me my food. I open the box and am slapped in the face with my favorite smell, spicy garlic. He then grabs my drink and opens it with ease and hands it to me. "Lindsey, I love you I hope you know that." I smile thankfully as I rip into my chicken savoring the taste. He walks to the room and come back out not long after with his face in his phone. "Did you give anyone my number?" He just had to ask as I was liking the sauce off my fingers. I shake my head no as I then use the back of my hand to move my long brown hair from away from my face.
"Ok, because I got this voicemail from an unknown number." He says as he shows me.
"There's a message also babe it says, ' I am watching!' Some prank maybe?" I say sipping my Raspberry lemonade. He shrugs it off and sits beside me. I relish in his touch as he dangles one arm around me and another to grab the remote to change the channel. I continue to eat as he scrolls through every channel looking for something to watch. I forgot my phone was on my boobs and knocked it off by accident when i felt it buzz. "Great," I mutter as i reach into the couch to grab it. I struggle for a minute and finally am able to pull it to me again. I check to see what made it buzz. It was from my friend Kayla, "Hey girl got a new shipment in i have way too much need to sell asap i'll give you a discount if you come buy some off of me." I text back that i'm on my way. Earning a delightful smile emoji from her. I slap Dillion who's mindlessly eating the rest of his pizza and watching some serious show.
"What?" He asks not looking away from the tv.
I shove my phone in his face and show him the text."Discount I'm still eating can you drive so i can get cash?" He shrugs and gabs his shoes from under the couch. I head to the car as the sky seems to change from afternoon to mid-day. I look at my phone and am shocked to see its already three-ish. "I'll be in the car." I yell back to him still in the house.
