Ethan hobbled into the café, holding on to my brother as he struggled to stand up straight. I gasped, throwing my dirty cleaning rag on the counter as I ran over to them. Placing Ethan's other arm over my shoulder, helping my brother carry him out the back. Sitting him on the chair in the staffroom, I grabbed an ice pack and a wet cloth and handed it to Harvey. Standing behind my brother, I took the opportunity to get a proper look at Ethan. His lip was bust open, crimson blood trickling down his chin alongside the blood that was gushing from his nose. My younger brother, Aaron came in and ran over to Ethan's side."Whoa!" Aaron exclaimed as he took in all of Ethan's injuries. "What happened?"
Ethan ruffled the fifteen-year-olds hair and grinned. He winced and placed a hand on his busted lip. "Grown up stuff." My brother rolled his eyes and headed back to the café.
Harvey grabbed some antiseptic wipes and began to clean some of his wounds. "You're a fucking mug." My twenty-four-year-old brother grumbled. "An actual fucking mug."
Making my way back into the café, I served the customer that was waiting behind the counter. "Hi! Welcome to The Busy Bean. What can I get for you today?"
He eyed up the menu that was situated on the wall behind me and tapped his chin thoughtfully. "I'll have the mint hot chocolate and a flat white." He says. "Oh, and two brownies and a ham and cheese toastie."
Adding up his total, I told him how much it would be and if he had a loyalty card. After stamping his card and taking his money, I told him that I would be fifteen minutes and that I would get someone to bring it over to him. I quickly whipped up a vanilla macchiato and put a slice of raspberry cheesecake on the side, I took it out back and set it on the table for Ethan.
The brunette smiled at me, putting his thumbs up. "Cheers, doll."
Harvey looked amused as he turned to face me. "Where's mine?"
I rolled my eyes, sitting down on the stool. "You're not the injured one." I tell him.
Ethan reached over and took a sip of his hot drink and a bite of the cheesecake, moaning at the sweet taste. Taking off my apron, I grabbed my hooded sweatshirt from the coat rack and looked at my phone, seeing I had a text from mum telling me that I had a parcel waiting at home.
"I've got to dash." I tell the boys. I then look at Ethan. "Did you need a lift?"
He nodded his head, wincing as he got up. "You're too good to me."
Rolling my eyes, I waited for him to get his stuff together before I followed him out to my small Vauxhall Astra. Buckling up, I flicked on the auxiliary and bobbed my head to the music that was playing as I reversed out of the parking space.
"Thanks for offering to run me home." Ethan says to me.
I shrugged, putting on my left indicator as I turned into Ethan's road. "No worries." I reply. "It's on the way to mine anyways."
Pulling to a stop outside his house, I turned in my seat to see him grinning at me. "What would I do without you?" He questioned.
"Probably die."
Ethan laughed. "You're not wrong there."
When I got home, I went straight to my bedroom and opened the parcel that had been waiting for me. I squealed like a school girl when I saw it was my new MacBook that I ordered last week. Logging on, I decided to take the time to get it setup. Mum knocked on my door when she got home, coming to sit on my bed as she told me about her day.
"Will rang again." She told me. "Maybe you should give him a ring back?" I shook my head. "I know you don't want to tell me why you guys broke up, but I hate seeing my baby girl hurting like this."
I frowned. "I know mum, I'm just not ready to talk about it yet."
The fifty-year-old sighed. "I understand." She got up, ready to leave when she clicked her fingers. "Oh! I forgot to mention Ethan's downstairs."
What's Ethan doing here? "Alright, send him up."
Mum shot me a pointed look. "No funny business."
I scoffed. "Just send him up."
She chuckled softly, keeping the bedroom door open as she headed downstairs. A few seconds later Ethan was shutting my bedroom door and collapsing on my bed, groaning as he clutched on to his bruised ribs.
"What can I do for you, Lawrence?" I asked, not looking up from my laptop screen.
Ethan sighed dramatically. "I need to ask a favour of you."
Looking up, I set my laptop aside and looked at him. "What kind of favour? Because, last time I had to pretend to be your fake girlfriend that ended badly." Ethan laughed.
"Don't worry, I don't need you to be my fake girlfriend again – I just need you to be my date for an event this weekend."
I narrowed my eyes. "What if I have plans?"
The twenty-four-year old rolled his eyes. "I know you don't have plans – you're the most boring person I know."
I huffed, shoving his shoulder. "Then ask someone else if I'm that boring."
Ethan rolled his eyes, pulling me into his arms, the two of us falling back on my bed. I squealed as he crushed me. Kicking my legs, I pushed him off me and laughed slightly. "So, will you come with me?"
I nodded, tucking my auburn hair behind my ear. "If I must." I said dramatically.
Grinning, the blue-eyed boy, leaned in and kissed my cheek. "You're the best, Hazel."
