MIDNIGHT SUN COMPETITION

The pink blush of the sunset disappeared as  sun left our view and before I knew it the dark blue consumed the sky like a power hungry surge. His fingers wrapped around mine like the azure blue did to the blush of the sunset. As I stared into his eyes, my eyes couldn't help but flicker to the ocean. His eyes were as clear as the ocean was. A lighter, clearer blue then the sky, but the deeper I stared into his eyes, the murkier they could become. It was as though my eyes were kicking the sand around in the water, except the water became his eyes.

It was amazing how this one night had brought us together.  It was fascinating how two incredibly different people could fit together so well in such a short time. Every little piece contained one of our faults and imperfections, matching one of his imperfections. He came from a family that no body knew, that had nothing, but he prayed to be known by all. To have everything for himself, for his family. I came from family that had everything. But I wished to only have  a quarter of it. Polar opposites, but we connected.

No one knew about us, it would be shamed upon. To both of our families. Him, a poor rich boy in love with some stuck up rich girl.  People would assume he was with me for my family's money. And then theres me, an elegant upper class lady, in love with a boy who could never provide for me. People would assume I was with him because...because..they wouldn't even be able to give it a reason, it would b to repulsive to have a reason. No one would ever believe that we could actually love each other.

That's why it had to change. Tomorrow was the day. After a year of sneaking around behind everyones backs, they would all know. No more lying to my friends about why I was never interested in any of the boys they thought best suited me. No more lying about why I hadn't brought a boy home for mum and dad to meet. It would all be out for everyone to know. It would cause a dispute, a large one that might never end, but I was okay with that. I wanted to people to know that I loved him, and that I wasn't afraid of what people thought. Not like I used to.

We held the lantern in our hand. We ha decided that it would signify our new beginning. The one where our relationship could really start. No more hiding. Just us.

"Are you ready?" he asked, just as nervous as me.

I nodded my head before pressing my lips to his before letting a lantern float away. Floating away into the abyss, taking our secrets with it.
