Mrs. Mason closes her book with a solid thud.

"Right then," She says, loudly. "You'll all be pleased to hear that we'll be watching a movie for the rest of the week. No notes."

What? An aura of confusion settles over the room.

It's only a Tuesday, this is definitely a change.

I grin, slightly. Days such as this are rare in this class, and are always appreciated. Simultaneously, every student, including myself, shifts their chairs to face the projection screen. We all assume it'll be some form of educational movie, not that it makes much of a difference. The class begins to chat, rather loudly, as they wait for the film to begin. Knowing this lot, they most definitely won't quiet down even when it starts.

I begin to predict the movie we'll be watching when I single Ellie and Evan's quiet voices out of the chatter. I lean as far back into my chair as I can, listening intently.

"...why not?" Her voice mumbles.

"-said he hurt you. I could see it too, I'm not stupid," Evan says, accusingly.

I can hear Ellie hesitate, if only for a second. "I know, I know, I never said you were. But really, I'm fine. I just... want to, okay?"

Evan exhales, sounding frustrated. He mumbles a quick "fine".

'Are they talking about me? What does she want to do?'

I receive my answer quickly, as she pulls her chair up right beside me. My breath shudders on its way out and I clench the sides of my own seat. This is such a little thing, but a shot into the dark for her. I shift my gaze toward her, while I pull my knees into my chest. She locks eyes with me just as Mrs. Mason cuts the lights, plunging the room into relative darkness. The projector flickers on, casting a blue light on the class. The sapphire glow reflects off Ellie's skin and hair. The color transforms her coffee-toned eyes into a lagoon, rich with thoughts and emotions that belong only to her. Her thoughts are no ones business but her own; I have no right to know or be curious. But she's willing to let me in, and I know she'll hold the door open forever. It seems like we stare for an eternity, when it's only been a few seconds or so. She blinks and turns to the screen, a trace of a smile on her lips.

The world returns to its normal speed, as does my heartbeat. When did it get so fast?

I realize I'd been moving closer to her.

When did my hand get to her chair?

When did I start to lean?

I sit up straight, feeling my cheeks warm up. What am I doing? I'm in a class full of people. Evan is right behind us. I'm now fully aware of the sizzling glare boring into the back of my skull. I turn my head around, slightly. Sure enough, there's Evan, haunting me with his pale blue eyes. My gaze returns to the movie in front of me, although I don't pay much attention.

Around seven minutes in, I begin to notice what Ellie's doing.

Every minute or so, she uses her legs to push her chair another half inch closer. I observe this several times, to make sure I'm not imagining things. She's definitely closer than she was a minute ago. Without taking my eyes off the screen, I move my arm so my hand grasps the sides of the plastic chair I sit on, mimicking her. The girl beside me flinches, as if she expected me to push her away. She remains completely still for the next minute before resuming her little scooting routine.
