"Hey, are you doing okay?" my roommate Stephanie asked.
"What do you think, my life is over," I rolled over in my bed dramatically. I had been sleeping and crying all day and my face was covered in mascara stains.
"No, it's not, you just need to tell him what happened and say you're sorry. I'm sure he'll understand," She said sitting at the edge of my bed.
"But, I ruined our engagement," I said "do you know how mortifying that is?"
"I know Jeremy loves you," she said putting her arm around me "just be honest with him, tell him you got fired."
"I didn't get fired, I got let go."
"Whatever, the point is, he'll understand."
"We've never had a fight that bad before."
"We'll, maybe this is a good learning experience for the both of you," she said "We should go out tonight, you've been in your room since yesterday."
"I guess," I grumbled, sitting up in to face her.
"We'll go to that animated film you wanted to go to," Stephanie said searching my closet for something to wear. That would be a hard task because I hadn't done laundry in two weeks. She pulled out a less formal dress.
I stared at the dress raising my eyebrows in confusion.
"Well I didn't see anything else," she smirked.
I put it on, but also wore a hoodie, it was pretty cold outside.
"Well, I think going to a film is fine, as long as we don't run into Jeremy," I said.
Stephanie and I went to the theatre and I was constantly on look out. I know this is one of the movies Jeremy wanted to see and if he was going to be here tonight I did not want to be noticed. I slumped in my seat awkwardly, trying to be as invisible as possible.
"You know, you're just adding more attention to yourself, right?" She asked.
"Your right," I pulled the strings of my hoodie till it completely covered my face, "is this better?"
"Zoe, you are so weird sometimes," she laughed, shaking her head.
"Yeah, more like all the time," I said.
The movie started and I felt engrossed into the world put before me. My fears felt nonexistent for
a moment.Suddenly , I felt supper lightheaded. Like I was about to faint. In my panic I shot up from my seat.
"Sorry, I need to go to the bathroom," I whispered to stephanie.
She nodded and brought her attention back on the film.
The bathroom was filled with women, a line was going out the door. Some of them were washing their hands, or touching up their makeup.
I subreged my face in water. I did not want to faint, especially in the bathroom.
I decided to get some fresh air and left the movie theater. I felt a little better, but was still struggling to stand up straight. I leaned at the side of the building, clutching my head. The pain was overwhelming.
What is happening?
Why can't I just stay awake for a couple of hours?
I saw nothing but black.
I opened my eyes, the theater sign is above me lit up like a christmas tree. Cars are honking, people continued to walk past. Some giving me sympathetic looks, others ignoring me completely.
"Hey, you okay?" I hear a male voice ask.
"Um, yeah, I think so," I said trying to take in my surroundings. I sit up and look up to see two strangers around my age, one a women with short brunette hair, the other a man wearing a white ball cap. They were both wearing glasses, that were square and had fine edges.
"She's not okay, look at her she's running out of energy," the women said, looking at me frantically.
"Um, what," I asked?
"How long have you had the necklace?" the guy questioned.
"Um, I...uh," I still felt light headed, "What happened?"
"You fainted," The girl said.
"What, I never fainted in my life," I said in shock.
"You must be very brave then."
"Quite the opposite actually," I stood up, "thanks for helping me out."
I started walking toward the theatre, but felt someone grab my shoulder. It's the short haired women. "I think you should rest for a bit."
"No, I'm fine really," I release myself and tried to walk in.
The glasses wear duo blocked my way from the door. "It's really not safe."
"What are you talking about?"
"Look, we'll tell you soon, just walk with us to that coffee shop right now, then, we'll explain everything," The guy said. He didn't seem like a threat. The women on the other hand...
"Fine, I guess, but my roommate is in there waiting for me."
"It won't be too long, I promise," He said giving me a reassuring smile.
I followed them across the street to a random starbucks. They looked around cautiously and told me to stop every five seconds, then we'd proceed another five seconds. They made a simple walk across the street into a twenty minute red light, green light game.
Who are these two weirdos?
