Jack carried Echo down the long dark hallway, he walked past many doors, each of which had names seeming to be burnt into them. The lights in the hallway were dim, perfect for sore eyes in the morning. Jack looked down at the small figure in his arms and smiled underneath his mask. Suddenly Jack stopped in front of a door with no name on it, he looked back down at Echo and held her with one arm so he was able to knock on the door.
*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*
The sound seemed to bounce through the halls, it must have startled the young girl as she quickly looked up in brief fear, her eyes darting back and fourth. She only felt relieved when jack looked down at her nodding his head in assurance. The door opened to reveal a man of average height with a surgical mask covering half of his face, she thought him strange when she noticed the sharp toothed smile drawn onto the mask. Jack said he was a doctor, right?
She must have still had a scared look on her face, because the man tilted his head and looked at her in concern.
"are you alright?"
She only nodded.
The man looked back up at Jack and said something that she couldn't exactly make out, however, Jack walked in without hesitation with Echo still hoisted up by his arm. The room was a bright white color and had medical tools and one of those really high bed things that Echo really liked. She liked the beds, but not the doctors, they scared her. Even though the man who she had met seconds ago was supposedly a doctor, she wasn't frightened, she felt safe.
The man walked towards her, and lifted her out of jack's arm, placing her onto the little bed she had seen earlier. Wordlessly he took her foot into his hand and examined it, he had a look of shock on his face before walking back over to Jack, asking him how it happened.
"I don't know exactly what happened, she hasn't told me. But I assume they're from running through the woods in the cold"
"Hmm, okay. Give me a few"
"alright"
The man walked back over to Echo and started to treat her foot, she winced quite a few times almost on the verge of crying. When he was done he wrapped it up, stood up, and went over to a drawer. He pulled something out and hid it behind his back where she couldn't see it, was it a needle? A finger-pricky-thingy? she didn't know.
He approached her and pulled out the mystery item holding it in front of her face.
It was a LOLLIPOP!!
The little girl giggled and gladly took the lollipop from the man's hand. Jack watched her in curious interest, he was smiling lightly underneath the mask of which guards his face from the view of the world, to her he seemed more or less emotionless. He watched as her facial expression changed. When she received the candy she was beyond happy, so happy in-fact that it was almost as if she had never had candy in her life. He wondered what had happened to her to make her run all alone into the forest.
Perhaps, he thought, he would ask her about that later.
Smiley approached Jack hand-in-hand with Echo, and told him that she would be fine and that she just needed time to rest and recover.
"Thanks, Smiley. Oh, and one more thing. I think Jeff is looking for you"
"Why on earth is that Idiot looking for ME? "
"Hey, don't ask me man. He looked pretty pissed though"
"Great"
Jack picked Echo back up and walked down the hallway once again.
"so, Echo, What do you wanna do?"
"I don't know, do you guys have a TV?"
Jack laughed and walked down the stairs and into the livingroom, placing the little girl onto the couch.
"what do you wanna watch?" he asked as he grabbed the remote off the center table.
"Spongebob!"
"of course"
