"Did you hear? That son of that whore is finally moving away! Good thing he is out of our lives now! Let's hope the other people in New York can tolerate him, but that would take a miracle... But hey, you know what they say, In New York you can be a new man..."

Alexander repeated these words in his head that he had overheard by some people in the Caribbean who heard the news about him moving to New York. He shook his head trying to get rid of these words in his head. That was in the past, he needed to forget his past and move on, but everything that ever happened in the Caribbean would haunt him. He had come to New York to get a decent education, he was noticed by King's College when he wrote a refrain about the Hurricane. "That will be 10 dollars young man.." Alexander flinched when he heard the man's voice. He must've been daydreaming for awhile, he had already arrived at the college. He got out his nearly empty wallet, and took out a 10 dollar bill. He thanked the man from the taxi and go out with his backpack. 

  All of his belongings fit into one tiny backpack, showing he didn't own much. He shook his head from these thoughts again, cursing under his breath for thinking of how poor he was again. He walked into the tall building that held all of the dorms to the college. Posters filled the walls, it was nearly empty. He knew he had been late to get his things into the dorm. He walked up to the receptionist, "Hello, I'm Alexander Hamilton and i'm here to pick up my dorm key?" he said in more of a question. The tired looking receptionist looked up. She typed fast at her computer, not saying anything. When she looked at Alexander's profile, she cringed, she threw the key up onto the counter and said, "Room 254, don't lose your key immigrant.." Alex sighed and walked to the stairs. He went up 2 flights of stairs and started looking for his room. He got near his room number, and silently prayed that it wasn't the one that sounded like a party was going on inside. To his dismay, it was. He heard people inside, he listened, 3 people? He thought to himself, noticing one with a heavy french accent. He knocked at the door, everyone inside seemed to quiet down a bit. A man much taller than him, with tan skin and his curly hair pulled back opened the door. "Hey..." Alex said in a barely audible voice. "Who is it Laf??" a man said from inside that Alex couldn't see from behind, supposedly, "Laf". "Oh! Bonsoir! Je m'appelle Lafayette! Je suppose que tu es mon nouveau compagnon de dortoir! Vous ne savez probablement pas le français, donc je vais fermer ma bouche!" He said in french with a giggle. The two inside groaned in annoyance, Alex guessed because they didn't know French, Alex grinned. "Pas besoin de fermer la bouche. Je parle couramment le français, je suppose que ces gars-là derrière vous ne savez pas français." Alex said with a chuckle at the end. He heard people behind Lafayette gasp in surprise. Lafayette's mouth was gaped open. Someone from behind Lafayette came next to him. He also had curly hair in a bun with bright green eyes, and freckles splattered all across his face. "Yo! Who are you??" He asked with a slightly surprised tone. "You know French mon ami??" Lafayette said jumping up and down slightly. "Oui, and my name is Alexander Hamilton. And i'm guessing you're my new dorm mate, Lafayette was it?" Alex questioned as she pointed to Laf. Laf still had a huge grin on his face. It seemed to be superglued. "Oui mon ami! And welcome to the dorm, sorry you had to walk in on us, how do you say..?" he thought to himself for a moment, "Oh! Rough-housing is the word!" His smile grew back onto his face. "It's okay! I was late anyway, my plane landed late." Alex said with a short smile. He couldn't help but notice the one with freckles splattered across his face, and had a turtle shirt on now that Alex got a better look, was staring at him. He ignored it and adjusted his backpack straps around his shoulders. "Oh! Come in mon ami, make yourself at home! Like I said, I'm Lafayette but you can call me Laf! Over there is my friend Hercules Mulligan," Lafayette started saying, as he pointed to a person with a blue bandana around their head. They had their feet propped up on the table, where they were sitting at. They gave a peace sign at Alexander and a quick smile. "And this is John!" Lafayette said and pointed to the guy next to him, who was still staring at Alex. John seemed to get out of his trance when his name was said. His cheeks turned a rosy color as he gave a small wave to Alex while he looked away from Alex. "Hi Alex, I'm Hercules Mulligan as Laf said, but you can call me Herc, and uh..." They bite their lip as they looked away from Alex for a moment. They took a deep breath and continued, "And uh, They/them pronouns please." The room was silent for a moment, The others waited to see Alex's reaction, Alex processed it for a moment, then gave them a smile. "Cool name, and I got you, they/them pronouns!" he said as he gave a thumbs up. Herc smiled widely. "Ohhhh, I think we have a keeper here mes amies!" Laf shouted. Laf closed the door to the dorm and locked it. "So, you don't judge people's sexuality's or genders?" John asked with a glint of hope in his eyes. Alex shook his head as he put his backpack down on the empty bed. The dorm had 2 single beds with a desk in the middle of the 2 and one desk in the corner, it had a small kitchen that contained a fridge, small drawers and a small counter space, a small dining table with chairs surrounding it, and an oven/stove. Next to the 2 beds, there was a couch and a T.V with a drawer next to the couch. One side of the bedroom was decorated and had blankets and pillows. It had a french poster on the wall and a poster that had flags on it, along with other stickers and posters. "I don't judge and I don't understand why people do judge. People are people, and love is love." Alex says with a smile and a shrug. All three people in the room smiled at Alex. "Well said, mon ami." Laf said to him. "I like this dude already. Where ya from kid?" Herc asked as he raised an eyebrow at Alex. Alex tensed up, 1, because he was not ready to tell any of them about his past. 2, he didn't want to think about it or get judged for it. "Unimportant." he says looking away and relaxing. Herc shrugs not wanting to push it. "We might as well get this out there then, I'm pansexual, John is gay, and Herc is nonbinary!" Laf says, joy filled his voice. Alex nods, "Cool, again I don't judge. In fact, i'm bisexual." Alex confesses to the group of people in front of him. They all smiled. "This is going to be a great year mes amies..." Laf says with a content sigh. Alex agreed in his head, repeating what that man said about him in the Caribbean,

"In New York you can be a new man..."
