John's P.O.V.
Alex and I walk into the house. The wood creams under each footstep we take. We walk into the living room. There's a large, dusty TV next to the doorway for the kitchen. It's sitting on a wooden dresser that is against the wall to some stairs. It was an old, yet large house. There's old couches with stains and tears from them being so old. There's a toy box also in the corner...
"Wow..." I say suddenly, this, getting Alex's attention. He tilts his head at me.
"It's.. it's just like I.." Martha cuts me off.
"Just like you remember? Yep! We don't change the location of things often." She tells us while scratching the back of her neck. I look at old picture frames in front of the TV. Some with my siblings and I, me with my parents...
My mom when she first had Martha... my mom hugging me in front of my horse.
"John?" Alex asks from behind me. I keep my attention on the photos and hum in response.
"Is that your mother?" He asks, pointing at a picture with my mother and I. I had 2 missing front teeth, and my mother was laughing while picking me up. I sigh and nod. I really do miss her. I cross my arms.
"She was amazing..." I tell him, looking back at him. He smiles shyly at me.
"I'm sure she was incredible." He mumbles.
"JAKCY C'MON!!" Martha yells, even though she's in the same room. Alex flinches at the yell in his ear but laughs. We both go into the kitchen, and Henry is cutting homemade bread.
"Haylee, can you get the cheese out?" Henry asks my brother sternly. He sighs, and solemnly nods, heading towards the fridge. I couldn't help but get angry at that. I know Henry Jr. is transgender. He came out to me first because I came out to my parents as gay. I'm proud of him for telling me. I'm the one who taught him how to shave his head and I bought him a binder. Only the back oh his head and sides of his head are shaved though. He must've told Martha about it too because she scowled at the name. Alex elbows me, and gives me a confused look.
"Trans.." I whisper in his ear and he immediately understands and nods. We all sit down at the long, brown, wooden table. That sat against the wall next to some counter space, where Henry was making sandwiches. Alex sat next to me and Martha did as well. Jr. was helping make sandwiches. Henry placed Addy in her high chair and gave her a small sandwich.
"How's school going?" Henry asks me, while setting food in front of us.
"It's okay. I enjoy what I'm doing though." I tell him. He wanted me to do law.. Never Marie Biology. My mom convinced him though.
"What about you young man? How's school for you? What do you major in?" He questions Alex. Alex tenses up a little, but takes a deep breath.
"I'm majoring in Law, minoring in Literature." He answers, somehow getting enough confidence to not stutter. Henry nods in approval.
"Very good. John here should have done that." He says, gesturing to me, before sitting down at the table. I roll my eyes. A slightly awkward silence stayed in the air as we all ate. Suddenly, Martha's eyes light up and she jumps a bit in her chair.
"Oh! Oh! Dusty and Diana had another baby!" She exclaims suddenly. I smile at her. My family owned a farm as well. We make a lot of good homemade and have a bunch of animals. Alex tilts his head in confusion.
"Horses." I tell him, answering his confusion. His eyes light up a bit, making me smile more. My dad scoffed when I smiled and got up from the table and left to his room. Martha sighs and Jr. looks ready to cry.
