"We understand death for the first time when he puts his hand upon one whom we love."

Her gentle eyes closed, the sun illuminating her face perfectly, a light smile on her face as she slept, her chest falling and rising in a slow motion. The mint colored sheets were right under her collarbone, her heart beat was nice and steady on the monitor, not a single irregularity as if it was telling me 'she's okay'. Her hospital dress laid perfectly on her with little polka dots and a cross necklace around her neck. The heart monitor dashed up and down on the screen as if her life was hanging on to the steady sound of the heart monitor that rang throughout the hospital.

She slowly turned towards me, her beautiful {E/C} eyes filled with hope and happiness, her smile was like radius amounts of joy that could make anyone smile.

With a smile on my face, I gently ran my hand on her hairless but beautiful head, "So, sweetie, I just wanted you to know, that I'll always love you." She smiled and gently gripped onto my hand,"I know, Dad, and I love you too." My eyes filled with tears as I stared at the comforting smile of hers. No one deserved this pain. Not even a little girl or teen, or even a elder.

"Dad," she gripped onto my hand as tears filled into her {E/C} eyes, but a smile still built on her face. "You know, I'll always be here, even after death. I want you to know, that I'll be your signal light of hope. I'm always going to be your little girl," she gripped tighter onto my hand as if it was her last moment to say 'I love you'. "Dad, I'm going to always love you. I'm going to be your hope, I'll be your sign of hope. I'll be your superhero, I'll always be your daddy's girl," tears ran down her cheeks as she let out a exasperated sigh. "Dad, I love you. Forever and beyond. . ." She smiled one last time as tears ran down her cheeks, her eyes looked at me as if I was her only happiness or her only sign of hope. As if I was her only person who truly loved and cared for her.

Her eyes became lifeless but a light twinkle of hope in them, her skin became a shade lighter. Her soft hand suddenly loosened her grip on my hand as my hand fell next to her's on the hospital bed. The beeps went lower and lower, then a long flat piercing sound penetrated my ears.

A flatline. . .

My eyes filled with salty tears as I gently held onto her hand once again. The never ending dreadful tears ran down my cheeks as I watched my adopted daughter give her last breath to this unfair world. Her chest never lifting up and down ever again, my heart twisted and ache as I heard that ear piercing noise that broke my heart into a million pieces over and over again.

A sudden force erupted me from my thoughts, I was being held back by a nurses. Doctors and nurses crowded around her for any sort of help they could give her. As if in slow motion, the doctors echoes for demands to bring her back would never work, I knew that. Their hands covered her heart and pushed, one of the nurses breathing air into her lungs.

When it didn't work, they brought the fabulator out and with every time it never worked, they would higher the jolts. Her body would seize with electricity but never wake. My daughter always knew her fate and had accepted it. I never wanted or to believe or even accept it, but she made death seem as beautiful as a flower.

I watched in pure horror as my little girl let her last breath go, her last moment on earth, her last moment of life, her last moment of anything and everything. Her body would have a seizure of electricity surge throughout her, but never bring her back. Her eyes were fixated on the ceiling only, her hands paler than ever before, her mouth was agape as her whole entire body was limp as jello. My little girl was gone. . .
