I started my new elementary with being friends with Timmy, he was alone on the first day so I decided to give him company. Timmy and I did everything together but people found out that we were hanging out together. I never understood why they were treating Timmy like he was nothing. They treated him like trash just because of a simple thing, after a simple thing his life turned upside down. After they found out I was hanging out with him, I started getting bullied. Their comments never bothered me but it bothered Timmy, and I tried to helped him through it. But in grade 6, I moved away, I was devastated and I cried for days, because I knew that Timmy needed me. I begged my parents to stay here but we had to move away.
They never told me that my granny was dying, I had been crying for days about Timmy that I didn't know that my own granny was dying on the other side of the world. We moved back to Brazil and I didn't like change but I got used to the tropical weather and didn't want to go back to Indiana. Timmy called me everyday and told me the news about his sister. I brushed it off and decided to go to the beach. I swam for 30 minutes and got out of the water, sitting next to granddad. While drying off I noticed this girl, someone I had never seen before but I knew what she trying to do. She was trying to see what was down under the water.
When I pointed out the girl, granddad stated impatiently,
"Agh I knew when she moved here, she was a curious laddie." My granddad walked down to shore and swam out to where she went down under the water. I saw my grandad go underwater, he was under there a while so I feel a spark of worry. I walked down to the water and after a few seconds, I saw my grandad come up from the water. My worries about him drowning with the girl vanish as soon as I see him above the water. I help him carry the girl to the shore, even though he doesn't like to admit he needs help but he looks like he needs it. The girl he went to save hung limp in his arms. Her light brown hair was tangled with seaweed and other items, her skin had a purple tint, due to the lack of oxygen. When I realized she wasn't breathing I did mouth to mouth, I felt so awkward doing this. I had never given CPR to anyone, let alone a girl I had never met before. After a few cycles, the young girl gasped for air and looked at us.
"Hey...hey!" She looks at granddad awkwardly, trying to both sit up and move away from the two of us.
"Um..." My grandad offered his canteen to her.
"I think I have enough much water in my lungs anyway." She says with an attitude. "Why am I here anyways?" I was getting tired of her attitude towards my grandad since he just saved her life.
"I saw ya in the water and knew ya were goin down under, so I saved ya." said Grandad.
She grabbed a handful of sand, playing it with, unsure of how to respond, refusing to look at us. "Thank you..." the girl mumbled under her breathe.
My grandad smiles. "Hey Kian grab a towel for the laddie." I go inside and grab the towel, she isn't a bad person but at least she isn't like the people in Indiana. I go outside and see her smiling, grandad must be telling her the corny jokes he tells to me. I handed the towel to grandad. "Hey young laddie wanna hear a story of when I gone down under?" my granddad says in excitement.
"Sure. Is is about how you saw Ariel?" She says playfully.
"No it's about a personal experience I had. Ya know I saw a whole new kingdom down there." Her grins, she doesn't believe him.
"Did you see Flounder?" I saw my Grandad's face go red in embarrassment. I turned my head and looked into the sunset but I was still eavesdropping on them.
"Ya know I would never lie-"
"But I don't know you." She interrupts.
"Ok well I'm Rick and I'm very honest and trustworthy. Who are you?"
"Well I'm Stephanie and I should be going home now, my Grandma would be worried." I look over and my Grandad grabs her arm
"No listen to more of the story." said Granddad.
"If you insist." We all walk into the house and she immediately makes herself at home, I stare at her freckled face, she looks to turn at me and I look away.
"Hey I'm Stephanie. How long have you been living here?"
"I'm Kian, I lived here for a few months." I hear the phone ring and it was Timmy, I declined the call.
