Ahh, summer. The time where you can choose whether you want to do nothing or everything.
And no one could stop you.
It was the second day of summer with no end in sight. I was sprawled out on my couch wearing sweats and a t-shirt that had been on my body since the last day of school.
I know... disgusting.
I was watching live golf- which was on my Not To-do list, second only to ripping my eyes out.
I was never into golf, but there was nothing better on, and Bri was set on watching it.
I sighed and decided that anything was better then this.
"Hey!" I yelled as I got off the couch. "I wanna go play some soccer. If anyone else does, then catch me outside." I picked up my cleats by the back door, and slid it on.
I felt the warm summer sun on my back as I kicked my worn navy blue soccer ball down the porch steps. Lacing up my shoes, I rolled out my shoulders and stretched my legs.
As I winded up for a practice shot, someone blew their cold breath behind my ear.
I got goosebumps. Turning around, I caught the culprit.
"Kade! What the heck was that?" I demanded, fake kneeing him in the balls and actually slammed the ball on his chest.
"Ouch. Listen hot stuff, if you want me to play soccer with you, you'll have to learn to treat me better." His eyes gleamed
"You'll play soccer with me?! Thanks," I smiled, tucking the ball under my arm. "Oh and, don't ever call me that ever again, or next time I'll actually knee you in the crotch." He looked just the tiniest bit scared. I would if I were him.
But I threw him the ball, and we started to play.
It was a nice day today. Sunny, bright, and a soft wind. Very stereotypical for summer.
Halfway through our first game, Tyler came outside and was sub for Kade who had to call his boss. Then Jer came outside as well and Kade and I were versing Jer and Tylen.
I went to shoot the ball, when Tyler kicked my leg out from under me. He caught me before I fell, but stole the ball and dribbled down our makeshift field.
"Hey!" I called out, chasing after him, "that's a foul!" I dodged Jer who tryed to trip me and slid for the ball, kicking it away from the goal seconds from when Tyler would've scored. But I kicked it harder then I thought and it bounced off of my fence, flying in the air and hitting Tyler square in the chest. The air got knocked out of him and he dramatically fell down next to me.
"That's what you get for cheating."I retorted, sticking my tongue out and standing up. Tyler smirked and pulled me back down. I fell on Kade's foot. "Uh, sorry Kade, it's Tyler's fault." I smiled cheekily, hoping he wouldn't resort to pummeling my face in the dirt later.
Don't feel bad, because I was strong enough to handle myself in a fight.
Kade looked at Tyler like he'd better move in .2 of a second or else he was going to get it.
That's when I felt the first drop. I stood up and looked up at the sky. Jer followed suit and a raindrop hit him in the eye.
"Ow. Mother frickin OW." He muttered, and flopped down on the grass next to me. Now Kade was the only one of us standing up.
"Wanna get ice cream?" he suggested. "We can continue playing after the rain stops."
I jumped up and grabbed his hand, tugging him towards the house so he could grab his keys- and wallet, (I was broke)- and take us to 'Milka what?' The best ice cream store in town.
Kade's grandmother owned it, so we got a 75% discount.
His car was a beat up Honda truck. The seats were faded leather and the comfiest thing in the world.
As Tyler and Jer struggled to keep up, I stole shot-gun, and shoved my victory in their faces once they got in.
"What are you two complaining about? It's just the front seat." I teased. I knew that all three of them had super long legs and that the two in the back were probably very uncomfortable.
Jer shot me a look that could probably kill anyone weaker then me. I smiled back at him, showing him that I could deflect his looks of death.
We passed our neighbors house two houses away. It looked like someone was moving in. I caught a glimpse of a really cute boy and a really pretty girl, both Jer's age-the lucky mofo.
The girl looked at me, and smiled. I don't know how I felt about that.
All my friends were guys. If I wasn't born a girl, then I'd barely be more of a tomboy then I was now. But, in the back of my head I thought, maybe it wouldn't be so bad to be more of a girl. Nothing crazy, just.... some of that eyelash stuff.
I didn't know what it was called. I never used it, I didn't know how to use it, I've never seen the makeup section in Wal-Mart before, and none of my guy friends ever talked about makeup.
So back to what I was saying before, a little part of me- whatever that part may be- wasn't happy with who I was.
We parked in the lot behind the store, and entered through the employee's door.
Then we set to work creating our beautiful frozen masterpieces.
Jer's towered high, covered mostly in candy, and not as much ice cream. Tyler had vanilla ice cream with neat lines of gummy worms (how is that possible?) and little jelly beans and gummy bears. I shook my head.
Why take so much time in making the food look pretty, when you're going to waste so little time in eating it?
Kade had a chocolate tornado. His hill was hollowed then filled with all the candy he wanted. I wish I was that smart.
Instead all I did was made a mountain out of moose tracks ice cream. Then I shoved Reeces mini cups and chocolate chips and caramel sauce on top.
Kades grandma said that we had to pay 75%. She never said what for.
After eating, the rain still didn't let up, so we stayed there. Eating our creations, joking around, and occasionally (accidental) spilling on each other. Though I did most of the accidental spilling.
