I'm a shy girl. I don't like gigantic crowds, I hate being the center of attention, and I most definitely do not like standing out. Yet here I am, surrounded by what seems like millions of people. I could feel their eyes on me as I stare at the ground. Why am I the center of attention? Is it because I'm the new girl? Impossible.
My mind keeps trying to find a logical explanation, but none of them seem reasonable. None of the reasons make sense. Just when I think the situation couldn't get any worse, people are starting to take their phones out to snap pictures. Why must they torture me like this?
I hug myself, gripping my elbows to try and end the uncontrollable shaking. Soon, my whole body is trembling. Someone please make it stop, I beg to myself. I'm close to tears when someone bursts through the crowd. My eyes are squeezes shut, so I don't see a thing.
"That's enough, guys. Get to class," I hear a smooth baritone voice say. They don't seem to listen, because they all start screaming in excitement. I hear him sigh in disappointment. "Hey, are you alright?" He's talking to me now.
"Make them...s-stop," I say quietly. "Please."
"Hey, look at me," The guy says. When I open my eyes, they're brimming with tears. I look up at him, and my heart would've stopped if I wasn't terrified. He looks like an angel that fell from the heavens. His features are perfect, like they were carefully sculpted by God himself. "Everything is going to be ok."
"But they won't stop. Make them stop, please," I beg. He places a hand on my left bicep, and his eyes widen in surprise. He puts an arm my shoulders and leads me out of the crowd, pushing anyone who refused to move out of the way.
We emerge from the crowd, and I let out a sigh of relief. My trembling slowly subsides and my tears have faded. Though angel let me go, he doesn't walk away like I expect him to. Instead, he stands here, staring at me, his eyes filled with worry.
"Are you alright," He asks me. I just nod, unable to find any words. Apparently, that isn't enough for him, because now he's looking at me in disbelief.
"I'm fine. Really," I said. I hear a chuckle, and he turns so that he's standing in front of me.
"I'm Leon," He says.
"Aurora," I say. He takes my hand and brings it to his lips. A blush quickly rises to my cheeks and I look away.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Aurora," He says. He drops my hand, but doesn't let go. "It suits you."
"W-why would you say that," I ask him.
"It's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl," He replies. I'm pretty sure my whole face is red now. "Stay close to me." He gives me this advice before leading me into the building. I could see why he said that too. When we get inside, all I can see is a sea of people, all going in different directions.
"We have to go through that," I question him without taking my eyes off of the crowd.
"Yeah. What's your first class," Leon asks me in return.
"A.p English," I answer.
"Same. The only thing we have to do, is get to the stairs," He says. "Which are all the way back there." I gulp. There is no way we can make it without being separated, I think, staring at the crowd. If I get separated from him, it will be the end of me.
As if he can read my mind, Leon slips his arm around my waist and pulls me close. It's as if he's making a silent promise to never leave my side. We grudgingly step forward and stalk towards the crowd.
A few moments later, we're pushing through the ocean, trying to fight the current that's pushing us back. When we finally reach the stairs, the late bell sounds and the hallway is clear.
Leon curses to himself before turning to me. "Ok, so before we go to class, I should warn you that our teacher is extremely strict and stupid. He doesn't tolerate tardiness," He advises before leading me up the stairs.
We reached classroom and Leon knocks on the door. I stand to the side, making sure no one catches sight of me. When the door does open, he is greeted by the teacher. After explaining to the teacher, he steps in before turning back to me.
"Come in," He says. I shake my head no. "It's alright. Don't be shy. I'm right here." I shake my head no again and this time, He grabs my hand and drags me towards the room. He stops once he catches a glimpse of the look on my face. He sighs and takes my other hand in his free one. "It's alright."
"They're going to stare," I say. He ignores my plea and pulls me in the room. I swear I hear the class gasp as they stare at me. I hide behind Leon, peaking around his arm. He chuckles before stepping behind me. He secures my arms so I can't move.
"Class we have a new student," the teacher says. If they weren't staring at me when I walked in, they certainty are now. Dear God, please get me out of this situation. "Her name is Aurora Davis." I wave to the class once, smiling nervously.
"That wasn't so bad was it," Leon whispers in my ear. I nod, and he laughs before walking to his seat.
"There's an open seat in front of Trevor," The teacher notifies. When they guy waves, my face pales. He has a smirk on his face as his eyes pierce mine. It's my ex.
