The first thing I hear when I come to is the sound of a heart monitor. I feel like I'm alive but I'm not. My lungs are burning, my rib cage is extremely sore. The pain is unbearable, and I just want it all to end. My heart rate seems to be increasing, and doctors are rushing in.
"She's waking up. We need morphine. A lot of it," I hear one say. Something crashes on the ground. It sounds like it fell of the metal tray. Are they operating on me? I feel a hand on my ribs, and I laugh unintentionally.
"This isn't natural," I hear another doctor say. I open my eyes to see doctors in masks and gloves surrounding me. I glance to my left to see a glass window. Standing right behind it was Leon with my parents. He says something before looking directly at me. His eyes meet mine and they widen in surprise.
"Hold her down. I'm afraid we don't have enough morphine to put her out," someone instructs. Then hands are firmly placed in my wrists and ankles. "Sweetheart, I apologize in advance for the pain you are about to experience."
Next thing I know, I'm screaming in pain as the doctor ruthlessly pulls at my broken ribs. He's not sorry, I think. He enjoys this. The pain impossibly increases and my muffled screams sound through the room. Someone put me out of my misery.
Tears are streaming down my cheeks as the doctor continues to pull.
"I know, I know, sweetie. It's almost over," the doctor promises. I keep my mouth shut, trying to prevent an audible scream. I hear a sickening snap, then I'm coughing up blood again. I'm going in and out again, my vision going out rapidly. "We're losing her. Get the mask over her face now!" I look back to my mom to see her trying to break the glass.
"I have to get to my baby," She screams. Dad is holding her back with tears staining his cheeks. She stops when she makes eye contact with me, and just collapses in my dad's arms. The last thing I hear is her saying, "I love you." before I fall into darkness yet again.

"What if she never wakes up," My mother asks someone. I can tell she's close to tears by the way her voice cracks in the end. "I don't think I can handle planning another funeral."
"You won't. She'll wake up. I promise," My father comforts her.
"How do you know that," She lashes out. This is not good. If only I could get my eyelids to just open up even a little. "You don't know anything."
Open, eyes come on open, I beg them silently. When I succeed, I spot Leon sleeping at my bedside. The hair that falls across his forehead shines under the lights that illuminate the room. Careful not to wake him, I reach out and stroke it lightly. So soft
I think, smiling to myself. He stirs, his eyes opening halfway.
"Hey," He greets, smiling at me. I smile at him and his eyes widen in relief. "You're awake. Oh thank god you're awake."
I laugh at how serious he is.
"If you never woke up, I would jump off a cliff. It's my fault you got hurt," He says. I'm about to attempt to say something when the door opens and in comes a petite blonde, followed by two more blondes. Each of them holds a bouquet of flowers, roses to be specific.
"You must be Aurora. We heard about what happened, and we feel absolutely terrible," The one in the middle says.
"Yeah. my boyfriend was totally out of line. I'll make sure he apologizes," The girl on her left says.
"Boy...friend? Wow. I think you should dump him," I say. "Just a word of advise. He is extremely abusive and controlling. Even a masochist would say it's too much. Unless you're a super m."
"How would you know," She begins to shout. "You can't make up some lies about my boyfriend because you like him."
"Like him? Please. I'm trying to help you. I wouldn't lie to someone who's being nice to me. And the reason I know is because he's my ex. I broke up with him because at some point in our relationship, He put me in the hospital. He nearly killed me."
"That's terrible," She gasps.
"How do you know she's not lying," The one in the middle hisses at the one on the left. She's about to speak when the door interrupts her. In walks...wait for it...Trevor!
"I came as soon as I heard," He says, out of breath. When his eyes traveled to my parents, He instantly smiles. "Hey Mrs. Davis. Mr. Davis."
"Why are you here," Dad asks. He's glaring at Trevor. If looks could kill, my dad would've been a murderer. Blood would be splattered on the walls.
Leon is standing directly in front of Trevor, hiding me from him. I can tell he's sort of confused, but it doesn't take him long to realize what's going on.
"Step aside, pretty boy," Trevor demands as he shoves past Leon. He smirks when he sees me. "Sorry, babe. I didn't mean it." He strokes my hair and I push his hand away.
"Don't touch me. We've already been through this,"I remind him.
"Isn't that what got you here in the first place? When will you learn to not disobey me," He questions me, gripping my chin.
I'm about to say something when Leon suddenly has him up against the wall.
"Keep your hands off of her, dirty ass little mutt," He warns through gritted teeth. "Or so help me I will rip your head off."
"I thought we established the fact that I am no longer yours. You have no right to boss me around. You lost your right to try and control me when we broke up," I say quietly. To be honest I'm so freaking scared, I'm surprised I was even able to get those words out of my mouth.
I can tell his temper is flaring. When his girlfriend calls out to him, he whips around and faces her, a menacing glare on his face.
"Hold on a second baby," He orders and she shuts up. Such a foolish girl, I think. Trevor shoves Leon off of him and grabs the collar of my hospital gown, yanking me to my knees. "What did you say to me?"
"You heard me," I whisper. He chuckles.
"You're scared," He accuses. Of course he's right. Of course I'm scared of him. But I won't give him the satisfaction.
"Are you hearing yourself? You're an idiot," I say. "Who would be afraid of an asshole like you." Something snaps inside him and he backhands me across the face.
"Baby! How could you hit a girl?! Especially one that you put in the hospital," His girlfriend shouts.
"Sophia, shut up! This has got nothing to do with you," He hollered back at her. He can't get another word in when Leon tackles him to the ground. He's pounding Trevor's face in again, and this time, no one stops him.
"Leon, stop. That's enough," I say, and immediately, he stops. He stands and smiles at me. He takes my hand and lifts it to his lips.
"Anything for you, love," He says before kissing it. Out of the corner of my eye, the girl standing next to Sophia is looking pissed.
"Leon get away from her," She screams. Her friend is trying to calm her down when she shouts again. "You're flirting with her right in front of you girlfriend? How dare you."
"Excuse me? When were we ever going out, because last time I checked I'm a free man," He counters. "And if I'm goin to date anyone, it's going to be her." He points directly at me. Well...this is kind of awkward.
