Sam hated being teased because he had spiky hair. Sam tried explaining that he can't get his hair to lie flat, but that only made the teasing worse. And, to top it all off, Sam wanted to grow up to be a weather man. Nobody wanted to be a weatherman. Sam often wished that someday, he would make them sorry for making fun of his hair.
“Why are you looking so sad when you have us to hang around with? You're a crazy spike-ball!” mocked David.
“Leave me alone!” Sam shouted angrily as he stormed off wishing he didn't exist.
Sam had the weirdest dream that night. A misty voice said to stop feeling sad and find some friends. Then Sam had a vision he was playing hopscotch with a boy and a girl who looked like they were in sixth grade like him. Sam yearned for someone like them to play with him.
The next day there was a new girl named Hanna in Sam's class. Hanna was the girl from his dream! She was tall with black hair that would have probably reach her shoulders if it wasn't in spikes like Sam's hair. David was trying hard not to tease her in the class right then and there.
“Hanna, want to play with me?” Sam asked Hanna at recess. Hanna replied, “Sure. What do you want to play?” He told her at recess he gets teased because he wants to be a weatherman, and that he had spiky hair. Hanna said the same thing happened at her old school. Then Hanna found her brother who was in fourth grade. His name was Dallin. He had dark brown hair, that, like Hanna and Sam's hair, was spiky. Dallin asked if they wanted to play hopscotch. Sam and Hanna said yes, as I ran to get some chalk and rocks. When recess was over, Hanna asked Sam,“do you want to walk home with us tomorrow?” Sam definitely wanted to.
After school Sam saw David strutting up to Hanna growling, “Girls don't have ugly spiky hair. Let's see how you like this new haircut!” Then he started tugging on Hanna's hair. Sam ran over to help free Hanna from David's grasp. Then, like magic, everyone got pushed away us like we were radiating a powerful wind. No one could get within one foot of us. Dallin said the obvious, “Whoa, no one can come close enough to hurt us. That is awesome!”
Sam, Dallin, and Hanna were walking home when Hannah asked if anyone knew how their wind power worked. Nobody understood how.
