How Long Does High School Really Last

chapter three

We walk out of the doors of the mall as I slip my hand into his. He looks at me and smiles. We put the bags in the backseat and get In the car.

I turn on the radio and 'sucker for pain' starts playing and I yell with excitement. He goes to change the station. I grab his hand and give him a death glare as he retracts his hand from the radio. He doesnt let go of my hand, instead he intertwines his fingers with mine. I smile and sing to the radio pretending not to be shy.

"Take my hand, through the flames. I torture you. I'm a slave, do your games. I'm just a sucker for pain."

I sing until the song is halfway over. Every once and a while he looks at me while I'm singing. I stop and catch him looking at me. "What?" I ask.

"Nothing." He says looking away.

"Mhm." I reply.

He turns into the driveway and turns the car off. He looks at me and says "Emma"

"Yeah?" I ask

"...I really like you." He says.

"Really? I do to. Well, I dont like me I like you, also." I say

My vision starts to fade away as I realize it was a dream. I wake up in the car as he unbuckles my seat belt and helps me out. I stretch and get my bag out of the backseat.

"Do you want me to come in or do you want to sleep?" He asks.

"Both." I say as I unlock the door and go up to my room. At the stairs I say "you can come in and lay on the floor of you want."

"Alright." He says walking up the stairs.

I get under the covers and lay there. I can't sleep anymore so I decide to throw a pillow at Ethan.

I dont hear anything until he pops his head up with the pillow. "It is on." He says and hits me with it. It messes up my hair, now I cant see as i attempt to throw another pillow off my bed. I can hear that I miss as I finally move my hair out of the way. I see him about to throw another one as I duck and it hits my wall. I roll off on the other side with a pillow in my hand as I wait a second. I get up and yell "YEET" across the room and hit him in the face.

"YES." I yell as he looks at me with playful anger. "Oh shit." I say as I dodge another one. "Hahaha you suc-"  he hits me in the face. I slam my head on the bed in defeat.

He walks over laughing, once he's close enough I grab his arm and swing him so he lands on the bed. I hold up a pillow and am about to hit him with it as He grabs my arms and rolls over, making me powerless. "Damn you Ethan." I say. "Haha. Ive told you once before that you cant beat me."
"At least I got a few hits in." I say as he leans down to my lips. We almost make contact as someone rings the doorbell.

We both get up awkwardly and I race down the stairs to see who it is. I look in the window and see my sister. She sees me and does the kitten face. I do it back and laugh.

I open the door and hug her. "What brings you back here?" I ask her.

"Just came to hang out and spend the night. Why arent you at school?" She asks. I tell her what happened recently with Jonathan and Isaac and she nodded her head. "Yeah I would've stayed home today to." She said. She already knows everything that goes on in my life but the recent stuff, until now. I tell her everything and she tells me everything.

Ethan is standing at the bottom of the stairs awkwardly as I grab his hand and pull him towards me. "You remember my sister right?" I ask

"Yeah, Hey Kaylee, nice to see you again." He says.

"You too." She looks at me and says "is the guest room still open or did dad turn it into something?"

"nope. It's there. You can go put your bag in there rn if you want." I say.

"Okie." She says running up the stairs. I hear her yell "yeet" and a door close as she runs back down.

Ethans at the door saying "hey I'm gonna go so you can see your sister."

"Oh you could stay but okay. Come back for dinner at 6 okay?" I say hugging him. He says okay and closes the door.

My sister looks at me and does the kitten face again and does a weird dance as I join her and make weird noises.

"He totally likes you. I can see it." She says

"What? Uh how?" I ask

"The Wat he looks at you. And when he hugs you he squishes you right?"

"Yeah a bit. But that's only because he knows how much hugs mean to me." I say.

"I still think he likes you." She says doing the pennywise dance.

"Oh god dont do that. I'm still afraid of clowns." I said.

"Oh really?" She asks but doesn't stop the dance.

I go over to the couch and yeet a pillow at her and she catches it and looks at me.

"No no no no, I just did this with Ethan and I don't want to do it again." I say as I slowly walk backwards with my hands up ready to catch it if she throws it.

She throws it over my head and it lands perfectly on the couch.

"How the? What?" I say.

She just stands there with her jaw dropped.

We decided to watch the show once apon a time. We got two episodes in when my dad comes through the door. "Aye. When did you get here?"he says to my sister. "About two hours ago." She says. "Oh" he says putting his stuff down in the kitchen and walking to his room. "I'm gonna take a nap" he says before closing his door.

"Haha. I think he's drunk." I say.

"Well yeah he did get home later so he probably went out with one of his friends." Kaylee says looking at her phone, "it's already almost 6:30."

"....Oh shit!" I say getting up as fast as I can and running to the bathroom. I just remembered Ethan's coming back over for dinner.
