I wake up early, wishing I could have slept more. I stumble around and grab my glasses. I throw on some nice clothes, pop two pills in my mouth, brush out my messy hair, and walk out of my apartment.
Nick is outside watering his plants. He doesn't even try to talk to me. Of course he doesn't.
I look away and climb into my car.
The drive seems to go by a lot slower than usual. Perhaps because I have so much on my mind. I make it there and check in.
"Hey, Peter, how's it going?" Kendra, a coworker of mine, calls to me. She's hanging out with her group of friends, they probably arrived early.
I give a little wave, and continue to walk to my space.
I sit down and begin to work, although, Matt comes up to me.
"Hey, Little Man! What've you been up to?" He puts his hand on my head in attempt to mess up my hair.
I grab his hand and remove it from my head. "I've already asked you not to call me 'Little Man'."
"Aw, c'mon. Lighten up, will ya? I'm like ten years older than you."
I raise an eyebrow. "You're six years older than me, and yet I'm still somehow more mature."
His jaw drops a little. "Dang, man, at it again with the sick burns! Oh, wait, what time is it? Gotta get to work, see ya later, Little Man!" And he's finally gone.
Work's over and I leave the building. Jonah and Matt come up to me, and I prepare myself for annoyance.
"Hey, Little Man!" Matt calls.
"Peter! Hey! Wait!" Jonah, sprints up to me.
I sigh. "What do you want, guys?"
"Me and Jonah are going to get a drink later tonight, we were wondering- oh, wait... that's right, you're only 20, you're still underage."
I frown. "Seriously, Matt, you've made that joke seven times already, It's not funny. I mean, even if I could, I still wouldn't."
And then Jonah does it again. He tries to be funny and takes my glasses.
I grab his wrist, looking him dead in the eye. "No."
He still thinks it's funny, and so he doesn't give them back.
Sudden power surges through my arm, and my hand tightens immensely.
He yells in pain, and I immediately let go, grabbing my arm, which is trembling in pain.
He throws me my glasses, which I manage to catch and put back on, as he scrambles to get away from me.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"
"You have a demon grip, Man," he cuts me off. I can hear fear in his voice.
"I-I-"
"We'll catch you later," Matt picks Jonah up and they run.
I did it again. I messed up bad.
"Wowza!" a voice calls. I only hear it faintly, It's not anywhere close. I try to ignore it, but it calls again. "It's worse than I thought! And you're still pretending to be human, huh?"
I sigh. Why me?
I continue to walk to my car, but a demon grabs me and drags me to an ally. I try to fight it, but It's a lot stronger than the usual imps I've been dealing with.
It drops me in the middle of a small circle of them, three in total.
"So are we doing gang beating now?" I ask, picking myself up from off the ground. "Are you really that afraid that I'll kick-" One pushes me into the wall behind me, hitting my back really hard against the bricks.
