Andover Ohio, 2018, Bryan Benson
sat, hunched over his keyboard, his fingers dancing over the buttons like a ballerina, pressing each key in a precise pattern that, to the untrained eye, looked like madness.
Sweat dripping from his face, his eyes focused on the center screen of his tri-moniter display, a tune playing in the background. The clicking getting even more intense with every passing second. The wrinkles in his face becoming more and more definitive.
Finally, after 3 minutes of intense clicking, Bryan sat back in his chair, a look of relief, and satisfaction replaced the determination that had been plaster on his face for a while before.
The words "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WIN!" danced acrost the screen in a plain Green color. A series of colorfull fireworks began to fill the air. One of Minecraft's only ways of rewarding players after a victory, and something many players long to see.
"Finally" Bryan Exclaimed, joy ringing through his empty apartment like a church bell on a wedding day.
Beeing the 3rd best minecrafter on the planet has it's perks, But it also comes with it's fair share of disadvantages, from random people requesting a duel, to fans swarming around you like maggots on a piece of rotting fruit. But, like always, the Great "Steel_Skeleton890" has bested yet another adversary.
"That was to close for comfort" Bryan Exclaimed to his teammates over the intercom.
"That would have been really bad if we lost to them again. We may have lost our credibility this time, and that would hurt our chances at Pax."
"Your right" He's friend Ian answered over the phone, "Mabye next time we should plan a little bit more before charging into the war zone, FRANK!?!"
"Jeeze, Sorry" Frank said, sarcasm radiating in his voice, "It wasn't my fault that you weren't ready for it!"
"Stop it! Both of you! Your acting like animals!" Bryan exclaimed. Causing them both to growl into there mic's like wild dogs.
"Well I'm off" said Frank, "see you guys later." " Same, bye" added Ian "K, stay brave men!" Bryan answerd as he disconnected from the chat.
Removing his headphones, he stood up and stretched. As he did so, his phone began to ring, Bryan walked over to it, almost falling on the rumba he bought a week ago, he regained his ballence, then answerd the phone.
"Hello?" Bryan asked
"Hey! Bryan!" A voice on the other end exclaimed, "It's Soo good to hear you again!"
"Who is this?" Bryan asked.
"It's Haily, Haily Crainer, your classmate!? Remember? I was your game development partner."
"OH! HAILY!" Bryan exclaimed, shock in his voice. He hadn't heard from her in almost 2 years now. Ever sense his early graduation from Digipen University,
"It's been so long! How did you remember my number?" He asked,
"I had it saved in my phone, I never would have deleted it." Haily said
"Well, what brings your beautiful voice over my phone?" Bryan asked,
"Coincidence" she said "I asked Siri to call someone random from my contacts, and it just so happens to call you! Also, I just so happen to be in town for the summer, that is, if you still live in Andover. I know it's where you grew up and all, but it still looks like it did when I left, a mess."
Bryan began to get annoyed, she had never liked this city, but it had been where he spent most of his life.
"Yah, I still live here. Why would I move? My place is here, my family, friends, and roots are hear. I have to intentions on leaving any time soon." Bryan replied, almost angrily,
"Good." Haily said, "Then why don't we meet at the Usual Place?" She said.
"Usual place? Bryan asked, puzzled, "You mean McDonalds? The only restaurant in this town? Also, did you know that food here has been the same since 2005?"
"Uh, yeh ok" Haily said, annoyed at the sudden bunny trail "And yes, McDonalds. What time is best for you?" Haily asked, expecting a normal time like 8:30 or 6:00,
"What Time?!" Bryan exclaimed, "I can be there in 5 minutes , Where you staying, I'll pick you up!"
"I'm staying in that new Hotel on the northern side of the square" she replied, "Where the old good will once was."
"Allright," Bryan answered "I'll be there in a few minutes!"
"Ok, see you soon!" Haily said, then Hung up.
Bryan put the phone in his pocket and began to walk to the door. But stopped just feet from the threshold when he realized we was missing one, critical piece of clothing, Pants.
Hurrying up stairs, he threw on a clean pair of pants. After he made it out of the house he started the car, and drove off to meet with Haily.
I wonder if she is the same as when I left Washington, Bryan Thought, what if she is nothing at all like I remember her to be. Thoughts started to fill his head, what if's, and mabye's, and how come's. Shaking his head, he drew his mind back to the road ahead. What is that? Bryan thought, out of the front window he thought he could see a block, That can't be right! I must be hallucinating, going crazy, that's it! I'm going crazy, over exposure to the game.
Slapping his face, he tried to shake the insanity. Looking back, he couldn't see anything un-normal. After finally pulling himself back together, he continued on tword Haily's place.
