Bryan was looking out of the window, lost in thought, watching the trees speed past his car. Haily was sitting in the passenger seat right next to him asleep. Her blond hair waiving out the open window. She looks so peaceful when she sleeps Bryan thought, admiring her beauty. Looking back out the window he thought he saw something, something block, What was that? He thought, is that a, a person? No, it can't be. Questions starting running rampant through his mind, questions of what he just saw, how it could be what it looked like, and if he was going insane or not. Mabye I should just go to a mental hospital, get myself checked out. Just then, Haily awoke. Brushing her hair from her face, she looked at Bryan, a smile plastered on her face, she looked like she just robbed the bank, and was now sitting on a boat load of cash.
"What I do this time?" Bryan asked, a smirk plastered acrost his face.
"I don't know," Haily Replied, "What DID you do?!" Returning the smirk. She looked out the window, then let out a massive fart, like one a sumo wrestler would release.
"Oh, what the heck girl!" Bryan exclaimed. "That was terrable!"
Haily just looked at him and smiled, slowly rolling up the windows and locking them in the closed position. Creating a sort of 'Dutch Oven' that spread throughout the whole car.
"Why are you beeing so cruel? Do you do this to every one of your boyfriend's?"
"Nope," Haily replied, "Only the ones I really like." Smirking again, she turn
To look out the window once more, dousing the car in silence.
"So, what brings you back here?" Bryan asked. "Why leave New York to come here?"
"Because," Haily answered, not looking back from the view outside.
"Because? What do you mean by Because?"
"Just because." She said again, this time looking up from the window to meet his gaze. "Because I wanted to see you, is that not enough of an incentive for you?"
"Yes, yes, of course." Bryan said nervously. She reminded him of a character from a book he red. A sassy, take no prisoners, female warrior. Only difference, Haily didn't own a bow.
"What are you thinking about?" Bryan asked, all most scared for the answer that might come his way.
"Oh, nothing." She replied, Bryan sighed, he knew that she was lieing, but didn't really want to know the real answer, so he kept his mouth shut.
"So, how are you enjoying your sta....." Suddenly there was a loud explosion coming from the north, the way they were traveling. The shockwave sent the car into a slide, all most rolling it over.
"Haily, you ok?" Bryan asked after the car came to a stop.
"Yeh, I'm fine." Haily responded. "What on Earth was that?"
"I have no idea." Bryan said, "But whatever it was, it wasn't good." They looked north, towards the place the explosion had originated, and saw a mushroom cloud rising up over the horizon. Ither a nuke had just landed on U.S soil, or a nuclear power plant had just exploded. Whatever it was, it was big.
Bryan turned on the radio, hoping to hear something about the explosion. Mabye a news article about where it originated, what had blown up, or even a crazy conspiracy theory. Anything would do right now, but there was nothing, no breaking news story, no announcement, no nuclear fallout warning, no nothing. Bryan just looked at Haily, shock filling his eyes. He could see hers wer full of fear. Her forehead creased with tension. Whatever had just blown up had to have been a big deal, but no one seemed to notice it.
"What are we supposed to do?!" Haily asked, fear running through her brain. "I don....." Bryan began to answer, but was cut off by another explosion, it was farther off than the last one, but it was still within an earshot of there location.
"What is happening?!?!" Haily said, tears running down her face.
"I have no idea," Bryan replied, "But whatever it is, it dosent seam right." Bryan turned the car around, and sped off in the opposite direction. Hoping that there would be someone along the way to tell him what was happening.
Out of habit, Bryan turned the nob to the radio, increasing the volume. And that's when he heard it, headings began to fly around. People HAD noticed the explosions, and many people were talking about them. Some thought they were terrorist attacks, some thought they were power plant accident's, and other, as always, thought they were the start of an Alian Invision. Bryan and Haily just sat there scratching there heads, minds filled with questions. Why here? Bryan thought, Why Northeast Ohio? What's so special about THIS place? Bryan continued to ponder this question for the next hour. Stopping only quick enough to call his family to tell them to get out. He headed Southwest, away from the explosions, and toward Indiana. He was headed to his uncle's house, that's where he's family agreed they would meet, if something like this was to ever happen.
They drove for three straight days, stopping only when absolutely necessary. When the reached his uncle's house, he was supprised to see that he was not the first person there. His grandparents had beaten them. They were sitting down at the kitchen table when Bryan, and Haily entered. They greeted the two of them, and began asking questions about what they saw. They conversation went on for hours, till Bryan's parent showed up, the smell of soot was present on there cloths. A dark haze filled there eyes. Bryan gasped, they had been efected by the explosion. And he had never known. They sat down and told everyone what had happened.
"It was the biggest explosion I'd ever seen, it was huge!" Bryans' mom said.
"Yah," His dad replied, "whoever created it, took out half of Cleveland, and parts of the surrounding towns. Thanks God we where far enough out, and the shockwave only shook things."
The next 3 hours were spent recalling the event, everything that happened, and everything that could be coming.
