You ran.You ran from the fear that had violently clung to the back of your mind. It had crept in and grew, it's vines weaving in and out of your memories.
With each barefoot step you took as you flew over the moss and undergrowth, you pictured what haunted you. Was it faded guilt? Unrequited love? The fear of never being enough? The shame of people knowing who you really were inside?
It didn't matter. All that mattered was that it was alive and it was hunting you. A full quiver slung onto its back and a bow in hand, it was not stopping without a trophy, another long tortured soul.
The blazing sun beat down on the small patches without trees to shade them, illuminating life in the otherwise dark expanse. You met the soft ground in a small clearing as your legs gave out. Pain ripped through your abdomen and you let out a silent scream. It was over for you. You felt the predator's vicious presence, but the forest lived on.
The sun did not beat down as before. It knelt at every flower and kissed it with warmth and light. The star brought forth even the smallest flowers decorating the forest floor. None however were any redder than the blood than was drenching your clothes. As your vision slowly gave way to darkness, the sun continued to caress your face, keeping you warm while you drifted into your final sleep.
