Please excuse my terrible one-shot attempts!

This chapter will be DaveJohn! Yeah. Okay. I can't introduction.

...

Today, he was finally going to do it. He was going to tell John that he loved him. Not even in the ironic way. He'd practiced it a million times in the mirror, but did it one more time this morning, just in case.

"John, I love you. Wait, no, too straightforward." Dave cleared his throat and tried again.

"John, I've had these feelings for a while now, and I just wanted you to know...No, too cliche."

He ran a hand through his blonde hair and groaned loudly. "Forget it, I'll just wing it when I get there."

"Dave!" A deeper voice called from outside.

"What?" He yelled back.

"You've been in there for ten minutes, get out of the bathroom already!"

The younger Strider rolled his crimson eyes and adjusted his shades before turning from the mirror and opening the door to let his brother in. He raced down the stairs as Bro shut the door behind him.

Dave poured himself a glass of his daily apple juice and sighed. He had barely finished his glass before running out the door. He was too nervous to eat anything, and wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. The worse scenarios played out in his mind and he tried his best to push them away.

"Haha, why would he reject me, I'm Dave Strider! He...he wouldn't..." Dave shoved his hands in his pockets and shut up before his own depressing thoughts made him turn around and give up. "No, I'm gonna do it. Yeah, I will." He inhaled deeply and calmed himself down. "Yeah."

He quickened his pace and managed to breathe normally, entering the flower shop on his block. The lady there greeted him politely and asked him what the occasion was.

"I've never seen you here before," she noticed.

"I've never had any reason to buy flowers before," he replied quietly.

"Is it for a special someone?" she asked, a childish tone appearing in her voice.

"Y-yeah." He cursed at himself for stuttering, but allowed the woman to guide him to the roses. "Take your pick," she chirped as she returned to the front of the room to greet another customer.

Dave scanned the flowers quickly and selected a single red rose. He almost smiled at it, but remembered to keep his cool act up and brought it to the cashier and paid without anymore thought.

"I'm wondering now if this was a good idea," he mumbled to himself as he walked toward John's house. He tried to think happy thoughts as John's house came into view. The brunette had spotted him through his window and waved happily. Dave gave a forced smile and hid the rose behind his back.

John had disappeared from his window, no doubt going to open the door for his best friend. Dave bit the inside of his cheek and hoped for the best. When he arrived at the front of John's house, no one had opened the door yet, so Dave decided to knock. His knuckles hadn't even brushed the wood when the door was whipped open, a cheerful face popping out.

"Hi Dave!"

"Hey Egbert. What took so long?"

"You know it takes forever to walk down the stairs!" John pouted, his face giving the taller male butterflies.

"Uh, yeah. John, there's something I...I wanted to tell you." His face heated up, and a lump formed in his throat. "What is it?" The buck-toothed boy asked innocently, his blue eyes staring up into Dave's red ones.

The Strider had to look away to keep from chickening out. "I...I've had feelings for you John. It's been years, and now, I finally have the courage to say it."

Dave looked back at John, who was still staring at him. "W-what?"

"Yeah, I said it. I love you, Egbert," he forced out, his cheeks flushing a bright red. "D-do you feel..." he swallowed and continued. "Do you feel the same way?"

He looked at John with a hopeful look in his eyes, giving him a half-hearted smile.

"Dave..."

"Yes?" His heartbeats were thumping loudly in his ears. The butterflies in his stomach flapped around wildly, and he was able to smile fully at his best friend.

"I'm not a homosexual."

Dave's red eyes widened, and he bit his lips. "I-"

"I don't feel that way toward you, Dave."

Dave's hands clenched into fists, his nails digging into his palms behind his back.

"Y-yeah, I just said that ironically. I know you're not gay, John, haha."

"Oh. Okay. Would you like to come inside then?"

Dave shook his head, unable to look into the blue eyes he had fallen in love in. "I'll just go home now." John nodded and began to shut the door. "See you later then!"

"Bye, Egbert."

"Bye, Dave!"

John's door had slammed in his face and the tears that pricked at the blonde's eyes finally escaped. He removed his shades to wipe at them, and the other hand that had held the single red rose clenched tightly. The thorns dug into his skin and his palm began to bleed, but the pain was nothing compared to his heartbreak. He was crying too hard to feel a thing.
