"There's no better time than now."
Brinn POV
"You gotta stay ready. There's no place quite like here, there's no better time than now. That's why I stay ready." I sung as I drove to work. My phone started to ring, breaking my mini concert. "They have the worst timing." I mumbled as I pressed the answer button on the steering wheel. "Yo bro, how far are you?" Jaleel asked as I sighed. "About 10 minutes, why?" "Me and Bria was wondering if you could stop past Starbucks and pick up our order?" Timeout, I know these hoes didn't order without me and want me to waste my gas to get it.
"We ordered you something to smart ass." he added as I laughed. They knew better. "You lucky I'm early send me the address and I'll stop past." I laughed. "Bet." "Now get off my phone, you're interrupting my concert." I said hanging up before he could respond. I love good news! *Kamala Harris voice*. I continued to blast my music as I continued my trek. "Now I really have to get gas. Matter of fact, lemme add it to the tab." I mumbled to myself as I made my way to the gas station.
Jaleel was now calling me again. "Where are you nigga? My stomach is about to explode". I laughed. "Um, that would mean you ate a bomb. Stupid ass." "Brinn, shut up." he said causing me to laugh. "I'm at the gas station. I had to stop and get some gas damn. Unless you wanted me to be stranded in the middle of the expressway." I said as he sighed. "Get here now Brinn. If I found out you ate our foo-" I hung right up on his ass. Negro, you asked me for a favor. "OK $20 for a full tank." I danced before getting back in the car. To be fair, I did have half a tank beforehand.
"Better thangs, better thangs, all new everything. Better thangs, better thangs, ain't got time for petty things, I'm on better thangs, yeah" I sung as I drove. "I got grace, put a nigga right in his place." "Yeah Summer. Say that again." I yelled as I restarted her part again. "Not the three car pileup." I said I as drove past said thing. The one thing I've come to learn is that people CAN NOT DRIVE. I swear they got their license from wish or something. I can't tell you how many times my car was almost hit nor how many accidents I done seen in this past week.
"After this exit, I should be good." I mumbled to myself as traffic was not at a crawl. "Lord please get me away from this truck." I said as I looked to my left at said vehicle. As soon I started to move, why did the truck just dart out to merge in my lane, causing my vehicle to lock up. "This the shit I be talking about! Get me the fuck outta here man." I said smashing my horn. Luckily, I wasn't hit but I still wanted to get the fuck ASAP. "Fucking stupid man." I said driving around the truck towards said exit.
"Finally, sh-" "Shut the fuck up and eat your food Carmine." I said throwing the bag at his punk ass. "Well damn. You're in a mood. What happened?" Bria asked me as I let out a deep sigh. "While sir dumbass was rushing me, I was almost hit by a semi." I said rubbing my face. Nothing was the fuck funny right now. "Oh shit, I'm sorry bro." Jaleel said trying to hug me as I mushed him. "Fat bitch." I mumbled causing all of us to laugh. I took a sip of my refresher. "How many Chemo orders do we have today?" "Not that much, about 40." she said as I nodded my head. Normally we'd have about 250 - 300.
"I'm still laughing from the way you straight up and left last night." Bria said chuckling. "Man, you know I don't fuck with them night crawlers like that. The moment I see one of them step into the room, I know that my work is done for the day. With the exception of 3 of em, they're all weird and all they do is talk shit. For the shift that has the least to do, they have the most to say. Very low vibrational of them." I said as she nodded in agreement. "We handle all the shit the morning crew leaves us plus our own shit, but do you see us complaining?" Jaleel added. "I swear I'm gonna punch one em. I can feel it." I said shaking my head. "Not before me." Bria said as we laughed.
Though we didn't have a lot of Chemo orders, that only meant that we have a bunch of normal med orders instead. We make IV's just in case you wanted to know. "You pulling another double tomorrow?" Jaleel asked me. "Man, no and I'm sick of them asking me." I said sighing. "Make that two of us." "More like 3." Bria added. "Well since this is our off weekend, wanna go to this party Saturday?" he asked making me raise my eyebrow. "Liquor and food provided, no particular dress code or cover charge." he answered causing me to smile. Knows me so well.
"Eh, I could use some fun, but are you guys gonna help me finish unpacking my stuff?" I asked as they stared at me. "Uh B, it's been 5 months, why the hell are you still not settled?" Bria asked as Jaleel laughed. "You know he's a procrastinator. Add to the fact that he kept working doubles up until last month, it's not surprising he didn't do shit but sleep on his days off." he laughed. "Both of y'all can kiss my ass OK." I said salty as hell because he really did just play me and with facts at that. To my defense, I've been working that much to recoup the moving expenses, I did that plus some. "I did get the furniture and bed settled. It's just the small stuff that has to get put away." I said with my hands up. "Small stuff being?" Bria asked knowing I'm about to lie.
"Um the kitchen table, entertainment center, TV's, bar stools and dressers." I said like and innocent child. "That is not small bastard!" she said smacking me upside the head. I mean it's small to me, that counts for something right? I simply shrugged. "Close enough." I said causing them to laugh. "Yeah we'll come over to help but this means the first round is on you." Jaleel said as I stared at him. "Or you can continue living like you're about to get evicted." he added as I punched him. I can't stand him, I really can't. "Fin-" "Plus lunch!" Bria added as I shook my head. "Anything else?" I asked before glaring at the both of them. "Nope. See you Saturday at 11." she sung as she and Jaleel walked away leaving me standing there looking stupid.
I feel like I've been set up.
