"Guilty of manslaughter, 1st degree"
Sheriff Dow felt sick as he watched the court bailiff drag away a 4-year old in pigtails. She'd accidentally killed her father after playing kitchen with the gas stove. Her mother had left immediately after testifying for the prosecution. Tragic.
This was Dow's last case; police officers were no longer necessary. Nobody could act, speak or even think about breaking the law with a microchip embedded in their skull.
Dow didn't like this new normal. The girl's mother was now "safe," but in the process, she'd lost her happiness, freedom, and humanity. No deal.
