Jonas's POV
After the game, which we won, the guys and I wait for most of the fans to leave. Ryan, one of the players, nods at me.
"Yo dude, we got a girl for the game." he says. I know then he isn't talking basketball. He means "the game."
"Who, you know I'm unstoppable." I say laughing back.
"You know the girl you totally almost hit with the basketball near the end of the game? The girl with the dark red hair? Her." Ryan says laughing, remembering when I overshot the basket and almost hit her.
The girl he was talking about was truly pretty. Hanna would have killed me if she was here and knew I even THOUGHT it.
"Easy, I'll do it." I say back, and Ryan, Ben and I follow the path of the mysterious girl with dark red hair. The other guys go to change, they know Ryan or Ben will tell them the entire story when we return.
We near the office when Ben spots her, nodding towards the girl, I fix my blond hair, and walk into the office, sitting next to her.
"Hey, I'm Jonas." I said nodding at her.
She rolled her eyes at me, which caught me off guard. "Okay" she said back.
Frowning, I asked, "What's your name?"
Sighing, she responded, "It's Beth." I sigh, Beth may be harder to win, she's sassy, and the first step, getting her number, will be hard.
"Beth, what a pretty name for a pretty girl." I say grinning. To my surprise she looks angry.
"Look.. you." she starts, and I interrupt.
"Jonas."
"Look Jonas." She starts. "I have no interest in talking to you, so now you can leave." All of the sudden the door to the principals office opens, and I am left in total shock. Right in front of me is Harry Wilson. The old retired college basketball manager I adored as a child.
"Beth, is there a problem?" he says to her frowning.
"Just this kid trying to flirt with me, Uncle Harry." She says pointing at me. My jaw drops. Beth is Harry Wilsons niece!
"I..I.. I'm sorry sir. It won't happen again, I'm a really big fan." I say, in total shock.
"I'm sure it won't. Beth, it's time to go." He says, and Beth stands up.
"Bye loser." she says walking out the door. In defeat, I walk out the door to Ben and Ryan.
Ryan is dying of laughter, and Ben is chuckling quietly.
"Dude! That's Harry Wilson with the girl! What shit did i get you into?" He says between gasps. Sighing I reply.
"Thats Mr.Wilson's niece. Totally playing hard to get, didn't get her number, but shouldn't be hard to get her number since she's clearly going here now." I say trying to play it cool.
"Okay dude, challenge accepted, for "the game" you are playing her for this month." he says walking down the hall the change out of our jerseys. Ben and I follow behind him, and I know by the laughs of the dudes in the locker room, they know of my defeat.
I drive to Hanna's to see her. She opens the door and we walk to my car.
"Ryan texted me, he said you got your girl set for "the game." Tell me about her!" Hanna says once I start driving to an abandoned parking lot.
"Her name's Beth, nothing special, just a hard one to win." I reply blankly, I leave out what she looks like. After all I should only have eyes for Hanna.
Arriving to the empty parking lot, Hanna shifts in the passenger seat to kiss me. After about five minutes of that, she leans back.
"We should talk." I sigh. This is the second time this week. First it was me calling to her about me and my dad's latest fight, and how she hung up because she "was bored."
"What." I reply back.
"I just want to let you know that.." she stops and looks at me. "I love you Jonas. I've waited for you to say it to be for seven months, so I'm taking the first step. I love you." She leans in, and suddenly she's in the drivers seat with me. She kisses me, and I search for a way to reply. Everything with Hanna is textbook, no "spark" as Ben described it.
"Hanna, I can't say it back. I don't know what love is, but when I do, you will be the first to know." I lean in to kiss her back, but she puts up her hand.
"Drive me back home you ass hole." she says frowning, and turns to look out the window. I knew she would be unhappy with my response, but I thought she would accept my confusion and love my anyways.
We drive home in silence. I drop her off, and I start my journey back home. I decide to stop for gas before I get home, just so I don't have to stop tomorrow morning. Turning into a gas station, I fill up, and walk in to pay. I couldn't believe my luck when I say Mr.Wilson, my idol and Beth's uncle, in front of me.
"Hello Sir, we met earlier today, my name is Jonas." I say to him and he turns around.
Nodding, he replies, "Yes, Jonas nice to meet you, you appeared to be a very good player for the short time I just saw you play."
I smile wide. He noticed me play. "Thank you Sir, I was just going to offer to show your niece around the school and maybe drive her for her first day tomorrow." I say grinning, I know this is how I can get her number.
"Perhaps we can make this work," and he gives me his phone number and address to pick Beth up. I didn't get her phone number, but perhaps the ride to school I'll get lucky and she will give it to me. Mr.Wilson and I walk out of the gas station to our cars, and I feel victorious.
