Change

They say time changes things,
Or more precisely us.
Do they mean that within that time,
Things happen and therefor change?

It's more like our actions and decisions,
That lead us to a reaction.
Sometimes things turn into a different way
Then we once might have expected.

I believe that for me it wasn't time,
That turned my world upside down.
The people in our lives seem to be the culprits,
And in my case it was you.

I remember when you once told me,
"I can't wait to see, how I will be in a few months,"
You took the change for granted,
And more like bragged about the fact, instead of actually understanding the meaning.

People that are very dear to us have a special power that they carry with themselves.
Their oppinions and actions matter to us a lot,
And they are the thing we spend most of our time with.

You made it seem so unnaturally easy,
Being with you.
It appeared to me that you'd be my kind of perfect,
So that's why I was expecting you to change me in a very good way.

Sadly that's not how life goes,
When everything seems to be okay,
Something appears out of the blue,
And can destroy everything you've been trying to build, even though it doesn't always happen, just sometimes.

Being with you tought me a few things,
That I'll avoid doing ever again.
In the end we're still our own persons,
So only we, ourselves should be able to change ourselves and not give the power to others,
As we are the ones that have to live with it.
