She looks at herself in the mirror and turns. She smooths down the foreign fabric with her hands as she tries to get use to the sight of herself in a dress. Looking at her hair once more, making sure it stayed in the place it's not use to being in. Kathy felt different.
'Why am I doing this?' She thought to herself. She just wanted to get back into her relaxed state of shorts, t-shirt, and a ponytail.
Buzzzz.
Kathy looks down at her phone.
Be there in 5 :)
As Kathy read that text, her heartbeat picked up. She took in a deep breath and checked herself one last time in the mirror before getting her purse and carefully maneuvering to the front of her house which was quite a task in the unfamiliar heels.
Her hands were shaking as she waited for the vehicle to arrive.
'Why is am I so nervous?' she asked herself though she knew why. This is the first guy she ever has had feelings for and she was waiting for him to pick her up to go on her first date. She rubbed her sweaty hand together and took in a big breathe and let it out. To say she was nervous was an understatement, she was terrified.
She saw the white Sedan pull up. She moved to the door to exit but before exiting she touched her hair to fix it, not like she knew how to in its foreign state of being loose around her shoulders. She opened the door and there standing was tall, soft brown eyed, brushed back brunette haired man.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw him though she tried her best to deny it to herself.
He looked her up and down, surprise written in his eyes and he gave a heart dropping smile, "Kathy in a dress? Where is the zombie apocalypse?" He teased her and that defiantly wasn't the last time of the night he would tease her.
She rolled her eyes through the nervousness that wanted to surface.
"I think it started with you." She said as he led her to his car opening the door for her.
As he helped her into the car he responded with, "I guess I'll have to bite you then."
He winked as he closed the car door leaving Kathy with pink cheeks as she thought about what he said.
He got in and off they went. The radio was on and Keath was looking comfortable driving in silence. The silence was itching Kathy inside.
"You didn't have to come all the way to me to pick me up. I could have met you there." Kathy finally stated.
Keath glanced over to Kathy, "And have you bail out on our date? No way. It was already hard enough to get you to admit your feelings."
Kathy looked away out the window with the mention of her feelings. She wasn't good with emotions, especially with the opposite sex. She didn't think she would ever find anyone that would make her feel this way until Keath.
Kathy thought about her relationship with Keath. He was so different to any other guy. He was respectful, kind and load of fun. The things they did together were usually active. They also loved competing with one another. The thought made Kathy smile as she thought about it. He never went easy on her in anything they did; hiking, paintball, trivia or ping pong and even so Kathy would end up winning most of the time.
They have been friends for a year and a half now, only pursuing their feelings for each other now since Kathy didn't want to accept her feelings for him in the beginning. Keath basically had to pry it out of her. And Kathy was so new to this whole feelings and liking each other thing while Keath was so relaxed about it. He mentioned it like he was going to make a sandwich or something. Literally.
....
(Flashback)
Kathy was sitting Indian style on the couch in Keath's apartment eating peanut butter from the jar while looking at the photos they took of the hike they did that afternoon.
"This one is a pretty cool one," Kathy said to Keath who was bringing apples from the kitchen. Kathy ate a spoon full of peanut butter as Keath sat down next to her with a plate of cut up apple slices. He looked over at the photo and agreed.
"Hey, Kathy," Keath said as he picked up an apple slice.
"Hmm." Kathy continued to go through the photos, half listening to Keath.
Keath bends over and scoops up peanut butter on his apple slice, "I'm developing feelings for you."
Keath puts the apple and peanut butter in his mouth. Kathy takes a moment to process what he says and when it does her head whips up to look at him. He continues to chew as he looks at the photo displayed on her laptop.
"That's a good one too." Keath gestures to the picture. When Keath feels Kathy is still looking at him, he makes eye contact.
After a few seconds of staring, Keath asks confusedly, "What?"
Kathy looks back to the computer still shocked at what Keath just said.
