Danielle Peazer was standing at the foot of the table. My jaw dropped at least twenty floors. I never thought I'd see her again, especially inAmerica. She smiled at me and waved. I returned her greeting with an awkward grin. What could she possibly be in Americafor?
"Hey, everyone. I...erm...I just wanted to say how amazing you all were at the concert tonight. I went to see it. It was bloody brilliant."
"Thank you, Danielle." Liam smiled at her and nodded. She smiled back, but it was a different smile from what she'd given me. It had a hint of 'I miss you, Liam', I could tell.
"Can I talk to Clara real quick? In private please? Sorry to bother you all. It's really important." Talk to me? What could she possibly have to talk to me about? Liam got out of the seat and I made my way to floor. Danielle began to walk towards the outside of the restaurant. Oh god, I've seen this type of stuff happen in movies. They'll lead you out the restaurant and a shady looking car will be out there waiting for you to put in their trunk. Then they'll take you to a place nobody has ever seen and or heard of and lock you in the basement. After a while they come down and say they're bringing you dinner when really you're their dinner and they begin to slice you open right in front of your eyes and soon they eat you and nobody will ever hear your cries and the case of you missing will go unsolved and everyone will give up.
"I was just wondering, how's Liam been?" Oh, maybe I was exaggerating a bit. She only wanted to discuss Liam. I looked from my right and my left for a car just in case. I really should stop watching those crime shows.
"He's been...erm...fine. Why?"
"I don't mean to come off rude or anything, but he was mine first. We had a relationship way before you two. You were just his friend...his neighbor. I was his girlfriend. I want it to be that way again."
"Oh...."
"So, please, Clara. Can you please let it be that way?"
"That's a tad difficult, Danielle. We're kind of married...and we kind of have twins..."
"Clara..."
"I know you had first dibs, but you can't just force Liam to like you. I also don't think you can break apart a marriage like this. I don't know what world you live in, but people these days don't just say 'Oh sure I'll totally leave my husband so you can get back into a relationship with him.' It's not possible, Danielle. I'm sorry."
"I had him first."
"You sound like a little girl saying that! Danielle, are you ok?" She broke out into tears. I looked around the front of the restaurant awkwardly and took her in my arms trying to calm her down.
"I miss him so much." Great, what does she think I'm her therapist now? Either way, I had to get her to stop. People were beginning to stare. This was not the Danielle I knew or heard of.
"Erm...I'm sure he'd like to stay your friend. Would you like that?"
"But then you're here and it gets awkward and it's not that I don't like you it's just...it's awkward." I patted her on the back like a parent encouraging their kid to do something.
"I understand. But, you can't say it's not a brilliant idea." She began wiping away her tears and smiled a tiny little smile at me.
"Fine. Let's try it then."
"I don't mind your company anyway, Danielle. You're a fun girl and I'd love to learn how to dance from you too!" Suddenly, out of no where she hugged me. I was taken aback, but soon accepted it. Well, I suppose this could be added to my brand new list of bizarre happenings.
