He smiled for only a second before his right hand was intertwined within the hair above her neck. She leaned in slowly and so did he. Their lips nearly touching, the intimacy building up between the two, nearly overpowering them. A last, they heard a snapping branch followed by crunching leaves. It caught their attention and they quickly turned to the direction of where the noise originated. It stopped. They looked at each other sharply as Penelope withdrew the switchblade from her rear pocket.
--------"Whatever or whoever you are, you better come out nice and fucking slow." Penelope demanded, holding the blade out in front of her.
"I don't expect anything to be nice if you're cursing at it that way." Xavier chuckled followed by a straight face after Penny gave him a death stare.
The branches and leaves began to crunch once again before Pen decided to walk up to the shrubs and grassed area where it was coming from. She used the knife to move around the the grass and things. To her and Xavier's surprise, there was an adolescent sloth that fell from the trees above. Though, slightly wounded, the sloth attempted to swing towards Penelope but wasn't quick enough. It whimpered in pain as Xavier noticed that one of the sloth's legs were broken. Penelope gently lifted the wounded creature from the leaves and branches and headed back over to their campsite.
She used two twigs and one of her tube socks to make some sort of cast of the animal's damaged limb. The sloth then rested upon the side of her leg as he grew warm from the fire.
"So, what are you going to do with it Pen?" Xavier questioned referring to the long limbed creature.
"Well, you have to admit, he's kind of cute." She grinned, caressing the back of the sloth's small head with her middle finger.
"How are you so certain that it's a boy?" Xavier crossed his arms over his chest.
"What girl is clumsy enough to fall out of a damn tree?" She scoffed, mocking him by crossing her arms as well.
"Penelope. You. You are. You fell out of a damn tree literally last summer." She jokingly snarled.
"Oh shit. Damn." She chuckled as she face palmed harshly.
"Hey, stop. You might mess up your pretty little face." Xavier stopped making eye contact, afraid that'd it cause instant awkwardness.
"Psh." Nel scoffed. "I look like a damn bucket of fuck it." She added. That was there little inside joke that they used for when someone looked horrid/gross.
"Nah. Not at all." He chuckled, gently moving her hair from her face. She smiled and softly swatted his hand away.
"Stop."She giggled. "Not in front of the baby." She laughed somewhat loudly after Xavier gave her a puzzled look. She snorted as she laughed, attempting to not wake the now sleeping animal. She began to cry joyful tears and her face turned a shade of red. She hyperventilating in between laughs as she tried to regain her oxygen.
"It was nowhere near that funny, Penelope." Xavier coughed. Attempting to disguise his own laugh. Penny continued to laugh and her happy tears poured from her face profusely.
"Okay, okay, okay." She breathed followed by one last giggle. "I really needed a good laugh." She smiled.
"I truly love that about you, Nel." Xavier grinned, looking at her from under the bangs of his medium length red hair.
"Love what?" She blushed, place a strand of loose hair behind her ear as she always did when she was nervous.
"Well, everything but right now, specifically your smile." He laughed through his nose. "I don't understand why you never smile in pictures." He rolled his eyes.
"You know I hate my smile." She giggled, playing with the grass beside her.
"You shouldn't. It's honestly breathtaking." He looked away as he also turned a light shade of red.
"Thank you. Now, stop complementing me already weirdo." She laughed, attempting to playfully throwing a handful of grass at him but it blew away with the wind.
"I'm going to go ahead and get into this damn fortress you made." Xavier laughed, standing from his spot. "You coming?" He questioned as he stood in front of the entrance to the little fort Penelope created.
"Yeah, maybe in a minute Vie. I'm going to soak up the moonlight for a little longer." Penny answered, placing her hands behind her, holding herself up.
"You sure you don't want me to keep you company?" Xavier asked, sliding his rolled up long sleeves down to his wrists.
"I'm sure." She smiled. "Get some rest, it's well deserved." She added. He nodded although she couldn't see it. Penelope heard the ruffling of the foliage that lied beneath his long body. She heard him adjust himself several times before stopping. She glanced down the sleeping sloth beside her before using some slightly damp leaves to extinguish the fire. The moonlight gleamed brightly upon their camping ground and she lied her back to look up at it. She sighed in relaxation as she just listened to the sound of the far away ocean crashing against the shore, the tropical birds in the distance singing their song.
After about an hour, she rose from the ground and gently lifted the sloth along with her. She placed him beside the "tent" and crawled inside. She noticed that Xavier shivered slightly as his back was turned to her. She reached into her bag and pulled out of her really over sized shirts that she usually slept in and draped it over the both of them. Once she realized it was a little small, she scooted close to him, gluing herself to him. Her breasts were plastered against his spine and her leg was lying on top of his. She buried her face into the top of his vertebrae and smiled slightly before falling soundly asleep as she felt his body temperature rise along with her own.
