The Start of Something New

I ran down the stairs as fast as my legs would carry me. I ran to the counter for the money and then ran to the door. I checked the mirror that hung beside the door and smoothed down my hair. I checked my teeth, my breath, and finally opened the door trying to seem as casual as I could.

There he was. With his perfect dirty blone hair and deep blue eyes. I'm telling you, this guy has the ability to melt you right there on that spot just by standing around you.

“Hi”, I said trying not to smile too big.

“Hey”, he answered back, “Here's your pizza.”

“Right, here's the money.” I said as I handed him the money.

“Thanks. Enjoy your pizza.”

He looked like he was in a hurry as he hustled back to the delivery car. I wanted him to stay a bit longer but oh well. Delivery guys don't hang around and talk. And anyways, I probably wouldn't even know what to say anyways. I watched him get into the car and drive away. He probably thought I was weird for not going inside and standing around watching him go all the time.

I went back inside with the pizza slightly disappointed and climbed the stairs back up to my room. Bella was still on the phone.

“Yeah, sure. Okay. Bye.” She hung up as I flopped down on the bed.

“Want some pizza?”, I asked.

“Aren't you going to ask me what we talked about?”, she had a wierd kind of smile on her face.

Honestly I was too distracted thinking about Ian that I really didn‘t care what they talked about. But I asked her anyways.

“Okay, so he asked me out on a date. So I decided I would give him a chance and accepted. He wants to take me to the movies.”

She finished with a high pitched screech and a smile that took up half her face.

“Yipee.” I said emotionlessly.

“What's wrong? Did you see a ghost or something? Aren't you excited for me?”, Bella said shaking my head.

“I saw an angel.”, I said without thinking.

“What are you talking about? Hello? Anyone there?”, she started knocking on my head.

At this point, I just decided that if she was going out on a date with one of the jocks that she hates so much, I would just tell her about my crush.

“Okay, I have a confession to make”, I said as I sat up straight. “So you know that guy named Ian Jackson?”

“Yeah he's in my science class.”

“Well, I like him. And I've been liking him for a while now but I didn't tell you because I was afraid of what you might say.”

“Well what would I say?”

“I dunno. Something like I'm out of my mind. And I thought you didn't like jocks.”

“I don't like Heath Collin, thats what I don't like. Well anyways its not really a shock anyways. Who doesn't have a crush on Jackson. Even the guys have crushes on him.”

“I know. But guess what. He's the delivery guy for Pizzaria and not many people order from there so I bet I'm the only one who knows he works there.”

“Yeah but what if someone saw him driving around or someone next door saw him ringing the doorbell.”

“...Yeah, you're right. I bet people know already.”

“So..is that the reason you're ordering from Pizzaria? To see him?”

“See him, talk to him, eventually get him to notice me, maybe become friends, or more then friends.”

Bella laughed and said,“Dream big sister. You guys might become friends and all that but I doubt you guys will go out.”

“And why is that?”

“Because he likes Kendle Fray and also if you do then every girl in our school will want to kill you.”

“Kendle Fray?!”

“Yeah. You didn't know? How can you have a crush on him but not know anything about him?”

“I dunno. I only see him in P.E. and he hangs with the cool kids so I don't really have an opportunity to get to know him.”

“The cool kids?? Oh, come on Sarah. They call themselves that. They're no much better than us than they think they are.”

“I know, I know. But still I can't believe he likes Kendle Fray. She's like the definition of evil. You know how last year I bumped into her in the hallway and dropped my books? She stepped on them while I was trying to pick them up and called me a sad lonely hippo who needs to go back into the swamp of misery.”

“Yeah you told me. I can't believe she called you that. How does she come up with those names? I mean you might be a little bit on the heavy side but you are not a hippo.”

“No its fine. I might be a hippo now but school is almost out for the season so I'm planing on hitting the gym all summer. Wanna join?”

“Uhh.. no thanks. Haha but good luck. If you succeed then maybe Jackson might, might fall for you.”

“Haha thanks. Hey the Pizza! Its getting cold.”

We ate the pizza and chatted away till about 8 p.m. Then Bella left and I was once again let alone to imagine the impossible. Things like Ian asking me out to the movies, or even saying hi at school.

Ughh. Why does my life have to be like this. Why can't I be skinny like Bella, or have her glowing hair.

Well I couldn't wait for summer break. I would stop ordering pizza and hit the gym every day and work off my fat.

It would be a bit sad not being able to see Ian's perfect face for a few months, but right now, getting in shape is number one on my to-do-list. Maybe then he'll fall for me like Bella said. Maybe.
