The dorm was unusually quiet today, or, actually, it wasn't the dorm that was quiet. The drip-drop of trickling water from the bathroom tap could be heard. The door to the balcony was ajar, a light breeze made the curtains sway back and forth with a swishing sound, and countless other things that broke the silence of the space.
Instead, it was safe to say that the people living in that dorm were eerily quiet, which was weird since that day it had been announced that they were finally, finally going to make their debut.
It was happening, at last, all their rigorous training had finally paid off, no more worries over when and if they were ever going to debut; the fight wasn't over, it was far from it, they were just getting started, they knew what others were going to say and what they were going to perceive them as-An arrogant rookie group, with an overconfident attitude that would get them nowhere.
They had heard it all, it just boosted them more instead of getting them down, and they could not give up without even getting a chance to fight.
So, considering the situation, Park Jimin should not have been surprised that none of the members seemed to be in the mood to make conversation. They were far too deep in their own thoughts, regarding the events of the day.
He observed them silently, not wanting to disturb their thoughts. This was not the time to invade on their privacy, no matter what was needed or required of him to do to be supportive.
Suga hyung was the same as usual, in the corner, on the sofa, with his eyes closed, and would have probably look as if he were asleep to anyone else, but Jimin knew, Suga hyung's awkward body angle gave him away. He never slept like this. He was always comfortable no matter where he was lying down. Even if it was hard ground, he would sleep all curled up like a baby. This was different. His body was all tensed up, his breathing uneven, he wasn't even trying to sleep, he was too anxious.
Hoseok hyung was too absorbed in his phone. His eyes bore into the screen to such an extent that it seemed like it was trying to burn holes into it. He could have just been playing a game that required a lot of concentration on one's part, and Jimin would not have paid a lot of attention at all, if it wasn't for the sole reason, that Hobi hyung had been standing for more than two hours now. He hadn't moved at all. His muscles would surely have cramped up by now, but it didn't seem to bother him.
Now he was full on glaring at his phone screen, as if it had personally offended him or something; And by now Jimin knew that it was not at all how Hobi hyung behaved, ever.
Jungkook and Tae were watching an anime while half lying down on the floor, bundled up in the blankets spread out around them. It was normal for them to do this all the day, expect for the fact that they were never so quiet while doing so. Imitating a characters expressions and dialogues were a given, especially for these two dorks, and jumping up and down in excitement over a plot twist, or a surprising turn of events in the story, was what happened normally. They weren't just happy, they became childlike, and innocent, engrossed in the anime, and it was too adorable to not observe them.
This was too much of a change for Jimin, almost sad actually, so he turned towards where Jin hyung was cooking in the kitchen. He seemed the most calm today, carrying out his daily chores, fussing over the dinner menu, that probably, nobody else cared about as much as he himself did. It got Jimin to cheer up a little on the inside, it was going to be okay, it was just a matter of time when everybody else would realize that sitting around and fretting over what tomorrow was going to bring was not how it worked. They just needed a push, or maybe they were waiting for something to happen.
It could have been a coincidence, he would think later, but just then Namjoon hyung's excited shout, or was it laughter, was heard all the way down the hallway, and it was enough to get everyone out of the seemingly blank daze they were in.
A crashing sound was heard from the entrance. A stand has probably been knocked down, or maybe worse, but everyone had stopped caring by now, they were used to it.
The door to the living room burst open, and Jimin was certain the door hinge was going to come off with the force, but thankfully it survived the outburst. Namjoon hyung had a weird, creepy smile on his face. His dimples had always been prominent, but now it seemed as if they had become deeper, and his cheeks must have been hurting from the exertion. He was literally dancing on the spot, and while his mouth was opening and closing, no sound could be heard.
'What is it hyung?' Jimin was curious now. Namjoon hyung was too excited. Not that it was bad or anything, but today it just screamed weird.
Namjoon was having a hard time forming words and all he could do was gesture around wildly with his hands flying around, until it looked like it would seriously come off.
Few minutes went by, and he finally calmed down enough to speak, although he still had a huge smile on his face that he couldn't contain. 'We're doing it guys! We're finally performing our first ever live stage, in two weeks, at Mcountdown!' Namjoon was jumping crazily again, and after hearing that, Jimin didn't have the heart to tell him that he looked like a maniac. He still couldn't get a hold of what he had heard.
'It's time?' Hoseok hyung was finally looking up from his phone, and his expression tugged at Jimin's heart. Never had he seen such a vulnerable look on his face before, ever. Nobody had.
Maybe that's why it happened. It was like a blur. Tae and Jimin were up in seconds, Namjoon literally jumped over to where Hoseok was standing, no one knew what was happening, but it was like a dam had broken. The house was suddenly flooded with laughter and tears, at the same time. They jumped on top of the other, hugging, kicking, and lots of screaming!
Jin hyung was giggling like a baby and Suga hyung was in the corner, smiling, trying to be discrete, and failing miserably; looking at his cheerful face once again made Jimin realize how young Suga hyung actually looked when he wasn't being serious or grumpy, and it involuntarily bought tears to his eyes, which if anybody mentioned later, he would surely deny.
Days later, he would still remember the distinct sounds of laughter that were heard throughout their home, late into the night. And he would know that that had been the calling he had waited and hoped for.
